I randomly started getting pain behind my left knee today and while I don't think it's gotten worse, it hasn't gotten any better. I work in a hospital and one of the clinicians put the idea in my head that it might be a blood clot, since I did a lot of flying for our HM.
She doesn't know I'm a horrible hypochondriac with terrible anxiety problems, though.
I flippantly mentioned something to DH and he wouldn't even entertain the conversation because he thinks I'm being hypochondriac-y, which 9 out of 10 times I am and he knows not to encourage me. But I have very real pain in my leg and can't think of why I would have pain there. I'm trying not to panic but feel pretty crappy.
The worst thing is that I JUST had a physical with my PCP on Saturday ... I wish I would have had this pain then and could have asked her ... she knows my issues and entertains any 'problem' I think I may have ... but I don't want to bug her since I just saw her two days ago.
Thoughts?
UPDATE!
I just got off the phone with my doctor ... I seriously love her. I explained the situation and told her that with all the flying and the fact that I just started BCP in August when I quit smoking, I was super concerned about it being a blood clot. She told me what to look for and I really didn't have any of those symptoms, and I told her it felt better today than yesterday (which it does). She said it typically wouldn't start to feel better if it was a blood clot, it would only get worse. I have no swelling, warmth or redness on the skin so she thinks it is OK, but she told me I could always just come in for a sono if I am worried.
See? Most MDs would tell never tell you to come in and have a sono if you're worried, but she gets me and knows how I am. I her and I just feel so much better.
Thanks everyone for your support.

Has anyone ever had a blood clot in their leg?

From one fellow hypochondriac to another I want to first say, Im sorry you are going through this! I have never had a blood clot, but I certainly wouldnt mess with it. I would call your pcp and see what they recommend regardless of what DH thinks at this point!

Thanks girls ... it's not that he is dismissing me or anything ... he just knows how I get. Like how I convinced myself I had anthrax poisoning when that was all over the news ... and how when we came back from the HM and I had a fever, I had the swine flu ...
I guess I will just call her tomorrow ... she's very good at listening and assuaging my fears.
Thanks!

A couple of weeks ago I cried for like 12 hours because I thought i was going to die! I had such bad pressure in my head. The next day I woke up and my ears and nose were clogged. I got all worked up and it was just sinus pressure!

Re: NWR: Blood clots ... long
If it helps at all, my grandpa and uncle both have/had blood clots that were in their left legs but it was more in the calf area where they felt the pressure. If its behind your knee its probably just a pulled muscle. I would still get it checked out with your PCP to make sure and give you a sound piece of mind.

I haven't but I had a boyfriend in Grad School who was hospitalized with a blood clot in his leg. His leg was extremely swollen in addition to the pain.

Thank you Michelle! This actually makes me feel a lot better since my leg is not swollen at all. I even made DH stare at the backs of my knees side by side with a flashlight ... since I can't see them! Yes, I am a freak.
Thanks everyone!

Re: NWR: Blood clots ... long
By the way, I am not a medical person so I would ask someone but I believe Aspirin is supposed to help blood clots and it certainly helps if its a pulled muscle. So it probably wouldn't hurt to take some. I know when John had his (my Grad School bf) they gave him aspirin regiments when he was back at home.

Aspirin is a blood thinner...my grandma had to take one every day to thin out her blood so she wouldnt get clots anymore after her stroke. But I would still discuss any preventitive measure w/ ur Dr 1st before I go do anything else. For some people it can be dangerous for when your blood gets too thin...best advice - talk to dr - they get paid to diagnose what is & what isnt.

Re: NWR: Blood clots ... long
Not to be all morbid and make you freak out anymore but my best friend died from a blood clot in her leg. It was very very swollen and bruised looking and it hurt her so bad she couldn't even sleep. Unfortunately she didnt think to go to the doctor. If you think it could be a blood clot then who cares what your doc thinks I would go there ASAP.

Re: NWR: Blood clots ... long
Hey girls,
Thanks for your continued advice. Last night, as I knew I would, I had a panic attack when I was trying to fall asleep and wound up being up all night. So I just called and left a message for my doctor and I will talk it out with her whenever she calls me back.
Thanks again.

Re: NWR: Blood clots ... long UPDATED!!!
you are referring to deep vein thrombosis, google DVT. it will explain all the symptoms. you would def have swelling and pain if a clot is forming, but it doesnt sound like that is what you have.
