nwr: how to get a copy of birth certifcate or SS card?

I've torn my room apart looking for my birth certificate & SS card & can't find them.

Does anyone know how to get new ones without picking them up in person?

You can get a copy of your birth certificate from the county you were born in by calling or http://www.health.state.ny.us/vital_records/ and order a copy. For your SS you can probably can go online at www.ssa.gov to order a replacement but I wouldn't do that one online i prefer to go to the office and let them know.

yikes, track that SS card down! That screams identity theft if it happens to accidentally leave your home.....

it's definitely in my house somewhere but I have no clue where... with my recent wedding & honeymoon, I cleaned and threw stuff into piles & cabinets who knows where it might be.

yeah, we just moved and I temporarily lost some important docs during that process....

really, rather than getting copies, first exhaust your search in your piles..... becuase you don't want to eventually accidentally throw one or both out someday in the future.......

I found my stuff in a pile, and you can too!!! good luck
