Re: NWR: Teachers

When did you initially get your certification. If it was after Jan 2006, then there is no permanent certification; only a professional certification is available:

If you are employed in a public school…

You must complete 175 hours of professional development every five years. This maintains the validity of the Professional certificate and allows you to continue to teach. The first professional development period begins on July 1 following the effective date of the certificate.

If you are not employed in a public school….

You must complete professional development every five years. However, the hourly obligation of 175 hours every 5 years is reduced by 10% for every year of your professional development period during which you are not employed in a public school. Example: If you teach in a nonpublic school for 2 years out of your professional development period, you must complete a total of 140 hours of professional development in that period (.20 x 175= 35 hours; 175 minus 35 = 140 hours). NOTE: This calculation is done automatically and is displayed on your individual professional development record. This maintains the validity of the Professional certificate and allows you to continue to teach. The first professional development period begins on July 1 following the effective date of the certificate.

Do you know how they prove your employment?? I have subbed, worked F status all over the place to make up the two years.

Do you think they count teaching that is nonschool related?????

Any clue???

I don't want to waste the 100.00 to be denied.

Thanks

I would call up boces and find out!!!! I have heard of people who just subbed being able to file and it counted, but i don't know how they proved it. I called Boces b/c I was unsure if my 2 years teaching in NC would count, and she said that I'd need a letter from Human Resources stating my dates of employment and that that would be fine!

Re: NWR: Teachers

all you hav to do is go to nysed.gov and create an onl-line account with them. it's called Teach on-line. since you have your provisional, they have all that information all you have to do is click and tell them that you want a permanent cert. in the area and you can even pay on-line. provided that you have been full-time in a dsitrict for the two years needed, the district reports that to Albany, you don't have to.... unless you had a lot of leaves, subbing jobs, etc. i.e. not steady work. your masters tanscript has to be sent to albany is not already, and if's an N-6 certification you need the video. but provided you have met all the requirements and they have that on file, you literalyl just click and it's done, i just got mine 2 months from doing this....

you can also do a name change on your certificate if it's alredy permanent... or you can just put your married name when you apply for the permanent.

HTH...FM if you need more info.
