Starting Nov 30th I will officially be a commuter. I had to go into the city today for my pre-employment physical and while on the subway I felt kind of funny about my rings. So my questions is, do you wear your wedding band and e-ring everyday? I don't want to not wear my e-ring, but I feel like it's a lot of 'bling' to be wearing every day.
ETA Don't know if it matters but I am going up to 100th and Madison.

Re: NYC commuters ?
I take the subway every day and I never feel weird, I never turn my rings, I never leave them home. If you're commuting normal rush hour times there's no reason to since you're probably traveling with a bunch of people, and there's little chance that anyone will be able to get you alone to take your rings. Just be aware of your surroundings - I don't listen to an iPod while I'm on the train and while I always read, I take time to look up every now and then. I think you'll be fine!
To me, I think it's silly to not wear my rings or not show them off - what's the point of having them then? (Though I live in a great neighborhood and I work in a very nice neighborhood in the city - maybe if the surroundings were different, I'd feel different.)

I wear mine but I work close to penn. I used to spin them around on the subway sometimes...if I felt uncomfortable, if it was late, etc.

Re: NYC commuters ?
I wear my rings all the time...The only time I do something different with them is when I have to be at workat 530 am and get on the train at 4 am, so I put them in my bra and take them out when I get to work because they would take my purse quicker then look in my bra....

Re: NYC commuters ?
I used to take the bus 20 minutes to work in Brooklyn every day and I turned my ering (this was before we were married) every single time I stepped out of my house.
Honestly, though, with all the stories of people getting jumped for their iphones or punched in the face for their necklaces I heard over the years, I never *once* in 400+ cases heard of someone getting mugged for their wedding or engagement rings.
My best advice always when worried about being robbed is (1) BE AWARE (2) SEEM AWARE and my personal favorite -- (3) stare everyone down and look them each in the eyes when you're going places, especially at night. Never wear your ipod or talk on the phone late at night because it makes you a target. (That really doesn't apply if you're commuting though, but it's something I always kept in mind.)
Don't be paranoid like I was, though -- I'm just telling you how it was when I saw it, but most of the cases I saw were flat-out robberies and NEVER for rings.

Re: NYC commuters ?
I commute from Queens to midtown.
The ONLY time I have ever turned my rings around is when I was coming home on the subway at 2am after having a drink or two.

Re: NYC commuters ?
I wear mine everyday on the A train. If someone wants to steal my ring, they're gonna have to chop my finger off.
Dont worry about it. During rush hour, everyone is sleepy and cant be bothered

Re: NYC commuters ?
I don't want to get anyone scare, but I did see someone getting mugged on the E train. 2 guys came up to this girl and they stood right in front of her (the corner seat). At first i thought they were just holding on to the thing on top. But she started screaming that she wasn't going to give her rings and asked for help. The train was pretty full and NO one did anything. Felt so bad. I did get up and made it to the condutor guy (the one the open/closes the doors) but it was too late. They took both rings. All the men in the train just looked up and kept minding there business.
So to answer your question, I don't wear mind. and DH gets mad, but I'm sooo scare. I'll wear them in the winter time b/c of the gloves.......

Re: NYC commuters ?
you know its so funny (not haha) but funny you mention that because at least twice Ive had altercations on the train and no one, I mean NO ONE has intervened. I almost got my a$$ kicked both times but thats also because Im a loud mouth lol. Still....people on the train conveniently pretend that they're asleep or they're listening to their ipods.

honestly - you can always hide them if you want. . just pull a sweater over them or something, esp now that it's winter, or turn them around and they . I mean of course there is always a small chance something could happen. . but more of a chance that it won't. . I guess I'm just not willing to not wear them everyday. . stuff can happen anywhere. . think of all the muggings that take place outside the mall, etc. . I just don't think you can prepare for it all you know?

Re: NYC commuters ?
I just feel like, to me personally, it's silly to live in fear of getting mugged for your rings. Bad things happen everywhere, all the time, but I refuse to live my life afraid. People get killed in small towns every day but that doesn't mean I don't want to live in the suburbs, you know? That's just me personally. I'm going to live my life and wear my rings and be happy.

Re: NYC commuters ?
I take the train everyday to Chelsea for work. I only wear my wedding band b/c I'm afraid I'll lose my engagement ring. Being born and raised in NYC, I never encounter any prob with taking the train wearing jewelry. The only thing you might have to worry about is if you take the train late past 12am since it tends to get crowded and rowdier at times.
