NYC Employees--Health Benefit Info

NYC Employees--Health Benefit Info

I thought I would share this information for any brides (or grooms) who work for NYC, and plan to waive their health benefits because they will be covered by their spouses.

You may be eligible for the Medical Spending Conversion Buy-out Program, which means you would get $500 for an individual and $1000 for a family in exchange for waiving your health insurance. This may not make sense for everyone, but if you do not plan on using your health insurance anymore, you might as well participate in the plan.

Definitely check with your employer, since I am not certain every city agency would offer this. In the meantime, for more info, go the following link:

Wow. I did not know about that. I work for the city but I choose to keep my insurance even though I am also covered under DH insurance. You never know in these days, in case something is not covered with his insurance, I can always fall back on my own. I also added DH to my insurance as well. But that is good info to know.

Well, I spoke to my HR department, and found out that I could reinstate my own insurance and add DH to it if he lost his job, his insurance, or became unable to work.

There was much that my insurance did not cover, and his covers quite a bit, so this made sense for us, though it won't for everyone.
