O M FG!!!! VENT VENT AND MOREEEEE VENT!
Ok so this is my official feel sorry for myself thread… After this I will pick myself up and dust myself off as I usually do and give myself that kick in the pants that keeps me going. But right now I needed to vent because sadly I don’t have friends that are not DH’s friends too.
Everyone knows I was supposed to be starting a math class this week at another school in the CUNY Universities system that was not my home school. Well I went on Monday and found out they have a diff curriculum; they start from Chapter 7 instead of Chapter 1 because they are far more advanced-they have different pre reqs than Lehman does.
So long story short, I needed to drop the class and was not allowed to take the lower level class in its place because I was on an E Permit; essentially “on loan” from Lehman so I had to go back to Lehman.
After crying out my dissapointment all day Monday, I went off on Tuesday to get my moola back and try and take it at John Jay which is supposedly equivalent. After a LONG DAY of running around (Y’all know from your own school days what its like dealing with offices!) I talk to the math Chairman at MY home school (Lehman) and ask if I could just take the class next semester at Baruch after I study with a tutor for the first 7 chapters. He said no. Not at Baruch, not at any other school BUT Lehman.
I asked why? He claimed because NO other schools are equivalent, even Montclair State which is where I wanted to go because it’s a phenomenal school. Saying Lehman is better than Montclair or even on par with it is like comparing community school to NYU. So I tried reasoning with him and he refused, despite the fact HELLO I live in NEW JERSEY and going from the Bronx where the school is to NJ takes me 3 hours because of public transportation and that’s not counting the hour it takes me to get there from the city.
He refused to be budged so I went to the Dean who was sympathetic and agreed that he is being ridiculous. I need SIX credits to graduate ladies..SIX! They have to be math credits but otherwise I AM DONE! And this wicked man refuses to allow me to do them anywhere that will be convenient. I offered to go running to every school I am considering and bringing him all the syllabuses and he refuses. Midn you, I am an A frickin student..some B’s it is true when I am lazy but generally considering I have been working full time for virtually my ENTIRE degree and taking night classes, I do well!
I’m not some piece of trash off the street. I speak well, I articulate well, and I dress better than his sorry butt! Slacks and a fitted blouse, not skin tight jeans and lipliner that matches my eyeliner. But he is this racist @ss that clumps everyone together. He treats us all like we are some ghetto folk and refuses to LISTEN. He thinks he is the Supreme Being and the be all end all. I hope he chokes on his lettuce salad with red paper flakes tomorrow...
ALL the professors and the Dean agree he is a douche bag (and has been for 4 decades they all said) but there is nothing they can do because he IS the final say for that department; stupid systems of checks and balances much like our own government.
The latest update is I was urged by the Dean just now to try and bring the syllabuses anyway so I am going to do that, but at this point looks like I will have to trek up to Lehman. He was helpful but used that tone of voice that you know means 'You're a nice girl but I don't want to get further involved so sayanara.'
What makes me angriest is not the commute, but the fact the teachers are SH*TTY! I always tell people that when I graduate, I will use my degree strictly for job related purposes; saying I have it. but it means nothing to me because the curriculm was such BS. I came from Pace University and went there, intending to transfer to Lehman. But long story short I was misadvised and by the time I went to transfer, I had too many credits and it did not benefit me to transfer. So I stayed but I HATE this school!
I am a good girl-maybe a PITA at times personalitywise but I am a good person and a good student and I bust my BUTT! I didn’t deserve this and after two days of crying, I am finally getting mad…![]()
I know I will graduate eventually. Im just angry that they make it SOOO difficult to graduate for people who really want it, and for others (in my own classes so I am speaking personally not generally) who just went because the federal Government paid for them to go, because EVERYONE seems to need a degree these days even if they are basket weavers, skate by with C’s and THEIR degree matters as much as MINE with all A’s….
Fawkin ridiculous!
Sorry..I am done now.
EDITED: To be less offensive to those who were offended by a contextual error. I apologize if I was unclear or if I mispoke. I explain myself further on in my second response. Thanks!
