Of Personal Nature - NFP

Of Personal Nature - NFP

Has anyone tried, or is planning to try, or knows anyone who has tried to conceive using NFP? Were they successful? Was it more stressful? Did it take away from the 'excitement' of conceiving 'naturally'?

Would love any feedback. . .

I thought that NFP was more about not getting pregnant?

It can be used either way. It basically tracks your ovulation so you know the days your are most fertile.

My friend used as a method when coming off BC a few months prior to wanting to start trying. She got pregnant earlier because she misread her tracking. They were excited but she said if you are using to prevent pregnancy you really have to be ontop of your game with it.

NFP is really more about birth control than TTC.

but if you mean to use it as a method for TTC -- you would be using calendar and fertility sympton bases , which is essentially what those who are naturally TTC use anyway.

is there anything in particular you have in mind?

Well, I am not TTC but I can't really see getting pregnant without following it in SOME way (other than just blind luck ) if it involves charting your cycle, temperature. . . or you know, the other thing LOL

Awareness of your cycle can only benefit you when it comes to conceiving. Even if its not TO get pregnant but its all helpful in figuring out your due date and conception date.

As for taking away the fun of it all, I know for me personally I wouldnt tell DH about it when the time comes, I would just keep track for myself!

It's how one of my good friends conceived, and it just seems so overly complicated and unromantic (if you will) to me. . .

They talked about it briefly at Pre-Cana. . .but I think the whole concept freaked me out, so I, unfortunately, never paid any attention.

Honestly, you can always just go with a 'whatever happens, happens' method at first. Make sure you know when your period is coming and keep it noted somewhere...but otherwise just have sex whenever and don't use protection and see how that goes at first if you are not a fan of charting and such.

Later you can always just chart your cycles (I like mymonthlycycles.com) and check from there when you are fertile and plan that way, if you change your mind.

I hate to say this, but honestly I dont know anyone who has just got pregnant without ANY knowledge of at least a RANGE of the dates of ovulation. Unless they were like 15 and didnt want to get pregnant or something LOL

Seems like something that is getting harder for women!

well there are plenty of people who get pregnant on accident or when they aren't paying attention to their cycles. sometimes I think when we WANT it, is when it gets harder.

i only suggested having sex without necessarily 'charting' like the OP was saying, to start getting used to the idea of TTC without all the pressure. this is how DH and i started. we stopped using protection, and simply had sex whenever and didn't think of the dates and things. i needed that so it didn't feel so clinical, and to ease me into it. while its not a guarantee one gets pregnant this way, it at least is a start and if you get pregnant like that--awesome!

i have always charted my periods...but now i am paying attention to when I'm ovulating and last month started using for the first time, OPKs. i hoped i wouldn't have to, and could just use charting and checking natural fertility symptons (like cervical mucus), but my cycles are irregular so i have no choice.

sometimes people need to ease into it in different ways, KWIM?

I can't imagine charting all of that sh*t, but DH thinks that with this magical method they showed is in pre-cana we can somehow produce a left handed pitcher for the Yankees.

God willing, we'll have twin girls. That will teach him a lesson.

Ed - I say this, b/c in pre-cana they tell you they can predict at which times youre more likely to conceive a boy/girl...

I absolutely 100% agree. BUT I also didnt want it to seem like charting was 'extreme' in any way. It is pretty mild in the whole grand scheme of TTC you know?

Sorry, the TTC board on LIF has scarred me for life LOL

I'm not sure if its the TTC board or the actual thought of being responsible for another human being that freaks me out.

DH has been putting on the pressure lately to have a baby. . .and I'm ready. . .but just not as much as he is. . . I think he's CLUELESS as to the responsibility.

With that being said. . . I think I will steer clear of the NFP for a while and see what the 'magical method' has to offer!

hi--are you my twin?

same here---the idea of having a child that i am responsible for...please hold while i hurl. lol

DH has been the one who is wanting to jump full onto the TTC bandwagon. i was the one wanting to wait a bit and finally i've come around, but i STILL get so nervous at the idea of it all. its the end of one life and the beginning of another. i am sooooo resistant to change!

so if you're like me, take it slow in the beginning and then you can move to NFP!
