Oheka brides and anyoone who has attended a wedding there, please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hello all-
I need some help. i am down to my final decision on booking my hall and oheka is 1 of the 2. my only hestitation besides the clause in the contract which says if they double book them may cancel my affair up to 3 days prior is that i do not know about the quantity of the food. my family and i went for a tasting 2 weeks ago and altghough the entrees were ok sized , the hourdeouves were infrequent and small. the food was also decent but not out of this world! since there was no cocktail hour given i am query on the amount of food that will be there. we are an italian family and although i am in love with the place food needs to be a priority. has anyone ever attended an event there who can comment on the food, quantity and taste. Rick said if i wanted to add a pasta course it would cost me an additional $7 dollars which i find to be ridiculous given the amount of $$$$ already charged. Thanks

What do you mean they can bump you if they double book!!!!???

In the contract it states that they have up to 3 days prior to an event should they happen to realize they have double booked to refund you the $$$ and cancelon you. With the refund of the $$$ you can take no legal action.

Rick and the owner'sdaughter said they would cross it out and initial it, but I am not sure how official that is in a court of law? Have you ever been there or know anyone who has - ho wwas the food? Substantial?

i'm confused! if Oheka overbooks they have the right to CANCEL your wedding 3 days beforehand?? that alone would make me run the other way

I was an OHEKA bride too just this past January and I don't recall that being in my contract either. I responded to the food question on BHB.

Hi,
I am getting married at OHEKA in six months. I am working with Rick as well. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HIM! My fiance and I looked at many places and dealt with so much double talk and outright lies...but OHEKA is totally different. Rick is totally straightforward and honest.

I am a lawyer and I too noticed that clause in the small print on the back (most people probably don't even notice it). I crossed it out and we both initialed it and that is FINE.

I am also Italian...and was worried about the food as well but, I have questioned several people on the quantity and quality of the food and everyone seems to think that it is fantastic. I did not go to the tasting dinner yet though...I was saving that for closer to our date when we have to pick the actual entrees.

I did add the pasta course though...for my family-it was necessary

Please forum mail me with any questions you may have

I also want to add that we almost signed a contract at two other places as well and there was a similar clause...most people miss it because it is usually buried within the fine print on the back!

Oh my gosh! I cant believe some places can actually double book your date and cancel your affair there three days before. THat would bother me the whole time up until my date. How could a place do that?

That statement alone is strange 'should they realize that they overbooked' Wooo ! Are they serious ??
What about you tell them 'Should I realize I didnt make the final payment.....' LOL...

Sounds scary ! If they are nice, and you are getting good reviews here, then go with your gut and if you really want OHeka, go for it.
and as far as the extra $7, places that are on the pricey side, tend to add money onto everything!

@ Flowerfield, I had to pay $75 for the bow on my cake (it was a 'stack of gifts' type cake)...I had to chuckle when she told me $75...'do you want the bow on the cake' WELL OF COURSE !!!

Good luck in whatever you choose !

Anna
I wonder if your cake is the one I was trying to copy. There was a picture of a cake they had in their book with a bow on top (not the one in their newer book) and we saw it a while back and when we were trying to find the picture we couldnt. I ended up going with something totally different in the end. I think I drove them crazy trying to locate the picture.

Oheka is beatuiful for a myriad of reasons...and if you can work out the contract like annie did then you'll be in luck...

it was my second choice...(it had been my dream for a long time...b/c we would always pass it growing up...even though it was abandoned)...but you have to take into consideration the amount of flowers that you would need...and we have a close friend who is a florist...and you have to use the house florist...and we were having a little more people than would be comfortable in the dining room...

honestly I think the clause is for the vanderbilts or the rockerfellers...if they need to have an engagement there...and it is booked...they might plop down 10x what you are paying...capitalism at its best

Rick had told me that the clause has been there for a really long time before everything was computerized...the chances of something like that happening now are close to zero.

Also, you definitely do not need to use one of their recc. florists.

Hey...What did you decide?

annie...the florist thing must have changed...when I was looking in 2001...it was required to use one of the 3 florists...
