OK Ladies I have a stupid question

My puppy Shelby has an appt monday to get spayed. I have never had to deal with an animal who had this done. Are they in a lot of pain? Also I don't know if its true I heard they gain alot of weight after is this true?

sorry but you deserve this

Yes it is painful, but you can ask for pain meds or they might require it. Try to keep her from jumping and more then anything she'll want to cuddle up with you. It passes in a day or 2. Dogs/cats heal pretty quick. As far as weight gain. I'm not sure. Some do and some don't. It depends on her lifestyle. If you are active she'll stay active. I have not had this problem with any of my dogs in the past or cats for that matter. Just baby her for a day or 2 and keep her calm and warm. She'll bounce back soon. FM if I can help at all and good luck. I know it's scary, but they get through it pretty quick

When I took Sage to get spayed, I asked my vet the same question and this is what his answer was.
Female dogs and cats will sometimes gain some weight or their weight will fluctuate. The reason why this happens is because when you spay an animal it is kind of like pushing them into an early menopause. This can cause weight gain if you don't change your pets diet or don't increase their activity.

Aww!! I have kitties but they went through it and Simon (little one) was weird for like 2 days when they snipped his stuff. He was really dopey, his back legs kept giving out when he tried to walk so he did this odd flop (keep her away from stairs!) and he was very irritable. USually he is ALL over his momma (like now when he is sleeping on ym lap) but for like 2 full days he even snapped at me and spent one whole night staring at the wall.

SHelby will be ok after its all over though. Seriously, it lasts like 2 days and then they are lovey and normal again.

Re: OK Ladies I have a stupid question

I was SOOOO nervous and upset when I took my doggie to get spayed. I was so afraid she would be in a lot of pain and whatever.

Turned out perfectly fine!!! Took her in the morning, picked her up in the evening and was told not to let her overexert herself - no jumping up on things, to not let her run around etc. She was still active (the first day after she was still kinda dopey), but they gave her Metacam (pain medication) that I gave her once a day for like a week I think and she was fine. And my doggie didn't gain weight after she had it done, I think it really helps if you keep them exercising and DO NOT overfeed them - a lot of people do this!

Good luck!
