okay, so what happens at the SS office?

when you go there to apply for a name change, do they print out a new card and hand it to you right then and there, or do they just process the paperwork and you get a new one mailed to you? also, do you have to surrender your old card when you apply for a new one? TIA wifies!

I went to the LB office and I was in and out in 10 minutes.

Fill out paperwork (u can print off website b4 u go)
Bring your Marriage Certificate, and Birth Certificate... don't surrender anything and get a new one in the mail 7-10 business days.

I didn't have to bring my birth certificate, just my marriage certificate (the original) and my old SS card, along with a photo id.

They take your old card and you are sent a new one in about a week. They give you a 'receipt' that shows the change.

You can find the necessary paperwork on their website.

ETA: At DMV, you don't surrender your old license so if by chance you want to go there first, it's not an issue.

I didn't need my birth cert. just paper work, id, and Marriage Cert.

I just needed my original marriage certificate. I printed the form off the website and filled it out when I got there. They didn't ask for ID or by birth certificate. I got my new card in the mail about 2 weeks later.

i had to bring my marraige certificate, the paperwork which u can print Here , photo id(license) and also proof of my maiden name(old liscense or birth certificate).

They processed the paperwork & mailed it to me in about a week. You don't have to surrender the old card.
