old health insurance

old health insurance

So this week I have gotten 2 bills from places I went to last year when I had my old job and old health insurance. Both times I know I had paid the co-pay. The co-pay was $35 for one and $50 for the other. Now I am being billed another $75 for both places. And these visits were in january and February. Everytime I call the insurance they are closed- I guess they close at 5. So I havn't heard from them yet why this is happening. My old insurance wasn't the best, but why are they billing me for more than 50% of the cost of the Dr. visits? Not to mention the one was a gyno visit and I had to pay all the lab bills myself. So basically total I will have to pay $275 of that visit with insurance! I think thats insane cus i saw the total bill from the explanation of Benefits from Aetna and it was $300. So what was the point of paying $180 a month out of each paycheck for this insurance at my old job? Its just stressing me out that here I am months later at a different job with better benefits and now this is comming up out of nowhere!! And I always ask what exactly I am responsible for when I go to the Dr.'s cus I dont want any surprise charges like this!!!

Don't give up. I've had problems like this. You have to get in touch with the insurance company (MAKE SURE you get the name of the person you speak to) You may have to call several times. Get the name each time and if you need to call again, tell them who you spoke to last time and when you spoke to them. Once they realize they wont be able to rail road you, they will pay up. Trust me. It's very frustrating and they are hoping you will just give up and pay it. But if you are persistent they will cover what they are supposed to.

I would continue to fight it. It is not fair for you to have to cover so much out of pocket when you were paying for insurance. If need be, speak to a supervisor or a manager in the insurance so that they can help you out. Keep us posted and please dont give up. That is money you can use for other things.

thanks guys! Its just ahrd to do this at work cus i am responsibile for answering the phones when my guys dont pick up. So I always have to keep putting them on hold. But of course they are only open till 5 and I get home at 6:30. So I cant even get anyone on the phone yet! So annoying. But I am not paying it cus I have paid enough! I dont feel I should ahve to pay beyond the co-pay- especially when i went to Dr.'s in network!

if you have your old insurance cards send them it. Sometimes they just didn't have your information at the time.

call on your lunchtime. I am lucky that I have dealt with medical billing for 10yrs and know how to handle the situation. For others it can be stressing. You need to look at the EOB and see what your responsibility was. It will say it on there. If it was denied because they failed to submit in a timely manner-you are not responsible so long as you provided the insurance when you went. You can't ignore though because they can put you in collection. good luck but follow through.
