OMG - Please help me

My bil (DH brother) just called me and told me he just got off the phone with a suicide line. Something happened with my sil (other bil's wife) and he didn't want to tell me over the phone, but she's banning him from seeing our nieces. He's devastated, he wanted to meet me tonight to talk in person, but I have plans with DH at a work function. I told him that I could meet him for an hour or so, but he said he needed more time than that. The problem is he doesn't want DH to know that he called me and DH has no idea what's going on. If I could tell DH then I could break my plans with him and meet with bil. He told me he'll be fine until we can meet tomorrow for lunch after I go to my morning classes. I am so upset, I can't break his trust and tell DH, but now I have to put on a happy face tonight when all I can think about is him. I only hope that other bil will tell DH what happened with his wife???? I don't think that he's going to do anything tonight, he told me he was going to bed. Don't you think it's a good sign that he called me, if he were really going to do something he wouldn't call right????

I'm so sorry to hear your BIL is going through this!

I think the fact that he called a hotline and you, is definitely a good sign. You know what he sounded like on the phone, so trust your gut. I think that if he sounded really desperate you would have found a way to break your plans so my guess is that he must've sounded like he could cope until tomorrow.

If I were you though, maybe try calling him tonight even while you are at the function (if possible) and checking in on him to be sure he's alright.
