Are there any towns outside of Oneonta that are nice? Im thinking it is probably like Albany where I went. I dont want to live where the college students live, but how is the area in general?

I dont really know much of the towns outside of oneonta..just stay away from main street and the blocks that are really close to the college and there wont be as many college kids

It is def a lot slower paced. I broke down near there and could not even get a car rental! It is beautiful and the people are really nice but it is a big college area. A lot of snow too.

So did my sister I went to SUNY Delhi 20 min away and we use to go to Oneonta for the bars but it is a nice small town. I am not sure how far from Oneonta you want to live. Most of the Towns around it are even smaller with less people and things to do. I remember last time I was there they had a Walmart and Applebees. Not sure what else. Good luck and congrats to DH!!!

Thanks for the info. I am not sure if he is going to take it. It was just a thought since we cannot afford to stay on LI, but if I can't find a job there we won't move

i went to oneonta too....agree that the town itself is small and loaded with college kids. not sure of the towns nearby...maybe binghamton or cobleskill.....i don't think verona (turningstone indian reservation) is too far...albany is about an hour, but there are some bad parts so be careful....plus in the snow that's a long drive!

congrats and good luck!

my sister goes to Delhi now she is a culinary student.

When I went to visit up in Delhi/Oneonta area I loved the views and how beautiful it all was. However not alot to do around there.

Binghamton was a nice area though. My brother went to college there and I really liked that area.

Good Luck!

Oneonta is considered a city and there are TWO colleges there. Your DH, if he accepts the job, will be dealing with a LOT of drunk kids. And from what I hear, the drugs on campus are getting way out of hand.
The area is pretty nice though... old and very small town-ish. The towns around it are pretty nice too. I have an uncle who grew up in Walton. I would definitely go and check it out (grab lunch at the Tuscan!!)... but just beware, the closest mall is an hour away in Albany or an hour away in Binghamton (there is a 'mall' in Oneonta, but it's soooo not a mall).

Re: Oneonta?

my parents have a house in delhi which is about 20 mins from oneonta... oneonta is like 'THE' town altho its really not much compared to here... they have a walmart, bbb, a mall that really has no good stores (footlocker, jcpenny, b&n i believe... its called the southside mall)

life is very slow paced up there... so that takes some getting used to... you wont find alot of newer houses... lots of farmland... if you're into BBQ, you'll love a place called brooke's thats around there... the neptune diner has pretty good food also...

theres really not much outside of oneonta... cooperstown isnt too far away if you and fh are into baseball...
