I am applying for a job that's posted as being based in Portland, ME. But, it doesn't list in the job descrption that the person must live in portland. it's for a bank that's in the ny area as well, so I want to apply because it's perfect for me and I am hoping that I can do it from a local office. PLUS, I am moving to the portland area in 9 months or so. Should I say anything about any of this in the cover letter? Should I mention we are moving? Should I ask if the job can be performed from home or another office, or should I just apply and see if they call?

I would just apply and see when they call, feel them out.

those logistics can be worked out at a later date... I would just apply and see if they call too...

I dont see a downside to mentioning that you are planning on moving there soon- that way if they need someone local they can consider that.
I am thinking about it and most of my company's job posts dont say that you must be local, yet, we toss anyone out of state's resume- unless of course they are willing to move hth

Thanks girls. I just wrote that I have plans to relocate to the area -- didn't say when. I just didn't want them to toss the resume like you said MB. It's a long shot but the description is perfect for me and my skills and I have to try!

We are actually planning to move to New Hampshire, on the Maine border. We are looking in the Dover / Rochester area, which is just north of Portsmouth. Where did you live? We loooooved Portland.
