Re: Our DJ is the owner of his business, should he be tipped?
I found this on a wedding website back when I was investigating tipping:If your DJ owns the company then the tip is optional but if the DJ is an employee $50-100.00. If you have 2 DJs (DJ & MC), give each person $50.00 in separate envelopes. When your guests rave about your reception later, it's the DJ that had everything to do with the fun.
Hope this helps!

Ours was the owner too and we tipped him anyway because he did a fantastic job.I know people say you don't tip owners but most of the people I used on my wedding day were owners, and I tipped them. I just feel if they do a good job it doesn't matter who they are, you tip them. Even owners have expenses and maybe employees, so it's not total profit for them. Also, when you deal with owners you seem to get better service and better prices.

we only tipped his assistant! Rule of thumb is ANY owner should not receive a gratuity (which let us off the hook with the photographers also!)
