OUR MARRIAGE LICENSE WAS LOST!!!!!

OUR MARRIAGE LICENSE WAS LOST!!!!!

I haven't been on the boards for awhile, but when I found this out, I thought - where better to vent than here? AND my husband's out of town and I can't get in contact with him!!!!

So when we get back from the honeymoon, our wonderful officiant (and really, she was great, I'm not being sarcastic) called and was concerned because there wasn't an envelope with the license. So she mailed it to the address on the license itself, which is in Manhattan.

I figured that would be enough. I called a few weeks ago, and they said it take 6-8 weeks, so I waited that time, and longer. But we never got the certificate. So I called on Thursday - rang about 20 times, no pickup. So I called Staten Island, who gave me a bunch of other numbers in Queens to call - I finally got someone, who told me that the lady I needed to speak to was out of the office until Monday.

Called her today and she just couldn't find the license. It seems that Manhattan was supposed to mail it to Queens, but Queens doesn't have it.

The lady is looking again and will call me by tommorrow if she can't find it, but otherwise we'll have to get a letter from the Cantor on her stationary saying when we were married and they'll issue us a Certificate in the office.

I'm just really upset, and for a second I was afraid we weren't really married - of course we are, but I'm all freaked out.

I'm sorry about the trouble you are having with this. It must be fustrating to no end to be pushed from one number to the next only to hear that you now have to follow up on the paperwork that should have been already handled. Hope it all works out soon

I am worrying as well because I never saw the envelope that the priest was suppose to receive from us to mail it in. I found it when we got back from our hm, so I worried that maybe he never mailed it or didn't know where to mail it. So I called the city clerk and they said that they received a million calls from officiants that never got an envelope and didn't know where to mail it to. They were giving them the address of where to send it when asked. So now its been 3 weeks and still no license. They told me it would take 2. So I am praying it comes soon! Can't do too much of the paperwork without it.
