Parent Album Questions

How did you have the parents select their pictures for their own albums? Did you bring all the proofs to them and have them pick out 25 or so the same day or did you narrow down the selection to 'what you thought were nice pictures'?

I think our parents will be overwhelmed with seeing 600 photos and may not be able to pick out the 25 that they like. And I am not sure that I want to let them do a whole lot more, b/c each print is $12 or so... So it can all add up.

We also don't want to leave proofs overnight or for a few days with them, b/c we don't want anything to happen to them and don't think that the parents will take as much care with the proofs as we will or if we're watching them look at the photos?

My mom didn't want an album (she feels that they aren't displayed), so she got a folio and a few 8x10s

she looked through the 1000 pics with me (believe me...they love to look at the pics) and she marked with a small post it...which ones she liked...then we took them out and played around with order and such and that was it...

My mother saw all the proofs but doesn't want an album for the same reason as yabbobay's mother. She just wanted a large full length print in a matted frame so she picked our thank you picture.

She couldnt be bothered to go through them all again.

My mom wanted to see all of them, but my ILs live out of state so we chose what we thought they'd want! The parent albums never have too many pics, so it's really just choosing the obvious ones. Bride going down isle, first dance, cake cutting, etc.

To speed the process along, you can also take out the outs you really hate first, then the duplicates that aren't needed, etc. to cut down on the number the parents would need to sort through.

Heck, no, both sets of parents want to see ALL the proofs!! In-laws live about an hour from us, so we'll probably drop the proofs off some weekend and let them hang onto them for maybe a week. My folks up in NY have already seen the proofs (they actually were the ones who picked them up for us) and did one run-through but plan to come down to visit us and try to narrow down the field some more. Of course, the last things my dad said were that a) he might want to pay to add extra pages to their album and b) he thought he could make an entire album just of the pictures he liked of me!! I don't know if that's cute or scary or what!!

On a related note, what did you decide to do about your thank-yous?

same as Alison - both sets of parents (well, the moms anyway) looked through all the proofs and picked out their pictures. Then I went through their choices and made adjustments if necessary

They both ended up adding additional pages

I only gave my mom an album and I picked out all the pix with Lia's help. Mom helped me pick out the pix for the album, they Lia and us finalized them.

Alison, we haven't decided on the Thank You yet. We're now thinking of changing the lower right hand corner b/w to a face forward smiling shot, instead of that with Lenny kissing me... The picture is almost identical, and also slanted, but has us just looking straight instead of profile... For now the big color picture is staying

I know this is horrible but I did it on my own...I just wanted to get it over with.

We had both sets of parents pick what they wanted. They looked through the proof album and just put post-its on what they wanted, then we ordered them together.

I picked for his parents, however, my mom was very involved in what she wanted for her album.

Invite them over for a picture party- then you won't have to be without them and you can watch your parent and IL's.

We gave each set of parents all of the proofs to pick out which ones they wanted in their album. Both of them took about a week each. We helped them narrow it down a bit when we came to pick them up.

I gave them all the proofs to our parents and they are picking what pictures they want for their albums.

My husband and I are picking the pictures for their albums because if I left it up to my it would take forever and she is very picky.

I let my stepmom and mom look thru all the proofs and pick out their photos. I split my proofs into 1/2 and let Scott's Mom look at the best ones. I had 1800 proofs and I knew that would be way too many for her.
I gave each Mom a mini-colored post-it note pad- each had their own color- and used those to let them begin to narrow down, narrow, down and do a final pick.
Also, I told them they each had 16 photos and anything over that they would have to pay the extra charge. MK ended up adding some photos for us at no charge- which was really nice. They also each got an 8x10 and a 5x7.
