Parentzilla's?

Parentzilla's?

Did any of you guys have parents not care about your wedding for a whole entire year of planning, and then turn into 'Parentzilla's' a month before???

I swear both of our sets of parents have just realized we're getting married... Its like the whole year of engagement didn't exist.

And of course now they have opinions on every tiny insignifficant detail.

Sorry for venting. I just wonder if its just us or other people had the same experience.

PS: and example of 'insignifficant detail' would be both sets of parents having an opinion of what kind of tie and cufflink jewelry the groom should/must wear!!! Insane!!!

I guess the excitement is getting more intense for them...

all of the parents let us do what we wanted...but the last month we did get a few surprised guests to invite...but it didn't bother us...

Re: Parentzilla's?

I must tell you, my hubby's mother acted like that the year of our engagement. Like it wasn't a big deal and then she became a pain in the royal, well you know.

The year of the engagement when I spoke about our wedding she interrupted me and brought up hers and basically ignored the whole thing. Then 2 months prior she got got this mysterious illness that would only go away when she was the center of attention or trying on her gown, which by the way all I kept hearing about was how much it cost her. I was like you had a freaking year to find a dress, you didn't have to purchase the most expensive one in the shop. No kidding her dress was MORE expensive then my gown!!!! UM HELLO, whose the bride here?

Then on top of that, she wouldn't drive in the snow, so my hubby had to take time off to drive her to the beauty palor and for her fittings, both of which were RIGHT in town......less then a mile away!!!! And as for the snow, it was a very slight dusting!!!!
Although I must admit the best was what she pulled at and the day of the wedding. My BP was coming in from out of state on the train and didn't drive and my neice had to be picked up from out east on LI. So knowing I would be busy I had asked him to do that........what does my future mother in law do?
She SCHEDULES A 2 HOUR HAIR APPOINTMENT THAT MORNING AFTER MY HUBBY TELLS HER THAT HE HAS TO PICK UP THE GIRLS FROM THE TRAIN STATION AND MY NEICE. Regardless of the fact that we had 11am hair appointments she schedules hers for 10:30am!!!! My hubby says well the girls can wait at the station, I was like your kidding right?
It was January and COLD and the waiting room was closed. I was like where would you like them to wait? I was more then ticked

Not to sound mean, but this was my day and she was being selfish I felt. Luckily my grandfather was able to pick my friends up from the station so they wouldn't have to wait in the cold, and my now hubby dropped my neice off earlier so she wouldn't miss her appointment. I had picked up two other friends who didn't drive.

Did I also mention how she invited people to the wedding without asking or telling us? So it was like surprise we're here the day of the wedding. When I mentioned it afterward, her response......well I knew not everyone shows so I fiqured I'd do this to save you money.......um hello.....great.....but it would of been nice to let the bride and groom ( who paid for the whole thing) to know!!!!!!!

So to make a long story short....I feel your pain!!!!
Vent whenever you need to!!!!!

PS_ And they wonder why some brides become bridezilla's?

Re: Parentzilla's?

Yabbo, we did the late guest thing too... We invited 3 families past RSVP date, and had to print emergency RSVP cards with a new date.... But the fourth 'late' guest we didn't want at the wedding, and had a huge fight over it!!!! Aaaah.

If people are important enough for you you remember them first, right!!!

And my mom insists on wearing the dress from the 80's style catalogue... What happened to her regular classic taste...

Re: Parentzilla's?

I think in our case...DH's side didn't want to invite that many people since my parents and we were paying for the wedding...

so when there was a possibility of falling below minimum...they asked to add...

so it was very reasonable...

Re: Parentzilla's?

We only had one major prroblem with my inlaws and i was prepared for it from the begninning (as was DH)
Dh's cousin is divorced and her daughter was one of our flowergirls-- well for DH's brothers wedding she brought her firend who proceeded to F**K a groomsmen in a car during the reception so needless to say there was NO WAY she was coming to my wedding--
well we made it clear from the beginning that not everyone was going to be invited with a guest--figuring that would solve the problem--well of course it Didn't so finally DH spoke with father thinking it was completely inapporpriate to have this conversation with his mother-- well of course all S**T hit the fan and I finally told MIL that there was no way this SL** was going to be at my wedding and why-- so of course that ended the conversation-- Ugh still pi**es me off when I think about it--especially when we see this woman (oh who is married with kids by the way)

Re: Parentzilla's?

I did have a MIL who drove me nuts over details that were not that important to begin with. My Mom only really made me crazy the week of the wedding. We went to the makeup trial together and she just took that hour to harp on me about everything and anything that was on her mind including the dent in my car that had been there 8 mos prior! When I first got engaged, there was a lot of bickering and input I didn't ask for. The parents bickered back and forth about $$$ for quite a while until they actually figured out who was paying for what. We had to tell them to lay off quite a few times! they were not nearly as bad as some stories that I heard about on here.
