Has anyone sent in their passport for a name change yet? Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but it says that if your passport is more than 1 year old you have to pay the $67 renewal fee. Is that correct? I thought that there was a way to just add an addendum that your name is changing. I'm not planning on going out of the country any time soon so I'm wondering if it's worth spending the money now.

Yes, if your passport is over a year old you have to pay the fee to change your name. I wasn't planning on traveling out of the country any time soon either so I didn't make it a priority. Then my husband's company transfered him to China and we only had a month before we left. So getting my passport taken care of was a huge pain in the butt. Now that everyone needs a passport to leave the country, the waiting period is longer. If you have the money, I would change it now, when there's no rush, because you just never know when you might want to/need to use it.

Yup! That's why I haven't done mine yet. Can't believe its that much money to renew it - and I have to take a new picture!

I just did mine. It came back in three weeks! I mailed them my marriage license, old passport and $67.

You can leave the passport in your maiden name until it is time to renew - just be sure to book your plane tickets in your maiden name.

I didn't realize that you could do that. That's a really good tip.

Mine too, I was surprised!!! We're not travelling out of the US until December but, I kept on hearing how long it was taking!
It's $67 but, the new passport is valid for 10 years which is nice!
