DH and I came across and amazing deal and a beautiful place located in south Patchogue village. Its located near the water. Does anyone know anything about this area? We are looking to invest about 5-10 years then move. Does anyone know about the elementary schools?

Re: Patchogue?
I know that the area is beautiful -- however from what I heard the school district is not the best and is going down as well.
I have a girlfriend who is going through the same dilemma and she grew up in that district. She said the elementary schools are fine but the Middle School and High School worry her.

Re: Patchogue?
I live in North Patchogue. The schools are not bad. And its not a bad place to live. Really when it comes down to it all schools have bad in it. Including Sachem (where I attended), middle country. Dont worry! I love it here. My DH went to Pat-Med and his sister just graduated 2 years ago. She loved her teachers.

Re: Patchogue?
I live in Patchogue right now, but we're moving very soon. We rent now and after working in the district (I'm not a teacher though), I wouldn't want to buy a house here. Mainly because the budget never passes and you can tell. The programs definitely suffer and teachers don't have all the resources they should. They do have issues with racial tension and gangs, and the high school has been on several lockdowns, however, nothing serious has happened in the schools so I wouldn't worry about that. The elementary schools are ok - just short on resources. The district isn't going to win any awards anytime soon, but that doesn't mean the children aren't getting an adequate education.
