paying for doc visit out of pocket

has any one gone to a doctor to get checked out & then given a prescription & paid for it all out of pocket??

i dont have insurance right now b/c of being at a new job & i really need to go to the doc - but i'm scared at how much its going to cost for the visit & Rx out of pocket

i used to have to do this --- it totally sux.

most doc visits start are like $75 or so. just be careful if they want to do any bloodwork--its OUTRAGEOUS how much it costs to have blood analyzed......and they'll send you a bill for it. you'll at what it costs.

if they give you Rx for something--ask that they ensure they give you an option to get a generic. i know that wal-mart and target now have programs to give you generics at low costs

ETA: if the doc knows you are paying OOP -- then they might have free samples in the office of whatever Rx you need....don't be shy to ask!

i have done it in the past. The doctor i had went to though was somebody i was going to for years. Since he knew i was paying for the visit in cash, he gave me the medicine i needed for free, they have them in their office many times depending on what it is. I had the flu and needed antibiotics so luckily he had that.

The visit was about $125, i think it starts at lower than that but depends on what else they might have to do

have you been going to this doctor for a while? if so im sure you can get the antibiotic for free. Even if not many of them will give it to you for free. See if they offer and if not ask them how much the antibiotic will cost bc you dont have insurance. I think i know what youre talking about and if im right they DEFINITELY have samples of it in their office and can just give it to you on the spot. But definitely make sure to ask if theres anything that can be done for you bc one popular thing they can give you for what i think it is can cost $80

When I didnt have insurance, I paid about 125 for visits and as far as the RX goes, theyre all different prices so it depends on what you need. Ive paid 25 bucks for an RX and Ive paid close to 100.

don't be embrassed---it can happen to anyone.

like Denise said--if you've been going for years and they know you have to pay cash--chances are the doc will do good by you.

good luck!

yeah thats what i figured it was, like i said make sure to ask bc one prescription they might give you is this tube of gel that costs $80. But they also have it in their office. Especially since youve been going for years, im sure she'll help you out. Good luck.

Ugh i had no insurance for years my doc cost me $250 for a visit and pap then the lab work was another $150. NIGHTMARE, so glad I don't have to deal with that anymore since i am married. Problem is my doc doesn't take my insurance so I need to find a new one soon.

I have a friend who's dr just calls in a prescription when she gets an infection with out seeing her...if your doctor would do that then it would save you the dr. visit. I'd call and say you don't have insurance you know what you have can the dr call in the prescription...I'm guessing the prescriptoin is less then the visit...
