I agree!!!
My DH asked why I won't let him help me and I told him that I don't want that 'emotional' attactment with the person I am working out with.....if my trainer pisses me off, I want to be able to YELL at him and not feel bad......I wouldn't be able to do that with my DH.......

Re: Personal Trainer?
omg, i LOVED having a trainer!! about a month after DH proposed, i decided that after 4 yrs of trying to lose weight (which i did manage to lose about 15lbs on my own), i needed help for the extra 15 lbs i needed to lose. i trained twice a week from sept 06 - april 07 and then once a week from then until the wedding (sept 07 - i ran out of money) our personalities didn't always mesh, but she totally kicked my @ss and got me in GREAT shape! while i'm glad i'm not 'obligated' to go to the gym anymore, i miss it at the same time however, i've NEVER gotten more compliments on how great i looked and it's something i'll never forget (nor will i ever re-gain the 30 lbs i lost, unless i get knocked up )

Re: Personal Trainer?
I had a personal trainer before our wedding. I got in amazing shape! As soon as I move home (to the US) and join a gym I want to get one again.

Re: Personal Trainer?
You have to find someone you can gel with, who inspires you! I used to have the BEST trainer, but shortly afyer I started dating DH he left to go back to school. My waistline disapeared shortly after that too!

Re: Personal Trainer?
I love my personal trainer at Lucille Roberts. In fact, I'm having a hard time parting with her now that I'm married... I just bought another 12 sessions, they're very reasonable and my trainer is AMAZING and FUN!! FM if you need her info!!

Yes..I had a personal trainer from NYSC, they are really good..they will push you to the limit and you'll definetely loss weight in a week. I wish I could have them all the time but its very pricey.

Re: Personal Trainer?
I used one before my black belt test & just before the wedding...only for a few weeks to help really tone & strengthen...the gym by me had them pretty cheap and without having to joing which was great! I was already working out on my own...but he made me look amazing!!! He was definitely a motivator and it helped me keep on track because i wanted to be able to say 'i ran 5 miles this morning' when i met up with him at nite...so instead of being lazy i went out and ran...too bad i am so lazy now Still working out but nothing like then!

Re: Personal Trainer?
depends on the trainer-ones at NY sports club are mostly skinny or FAT kids who pass a test but are not motivating to look at which makes me think PULEEAZE why am I paying THEM!!!! I did have one guy who whupped my BUTT OMG!! I would act all tought and keep taking what he threw and then be crippled next day lmao. He was worth it but shop around,,,make sure yyou like the person and they understand what they are doing and understand YOUR body and YOUR limits...one woman injured me. made me do something I KNEW I couldn't but she pushed me....ended up with a hairline fracture in my ankle... SO yea..be careful.

Re: Personal Trainer?
I have one at my gym at work that I see 2 - 3 days a week. She's great! She's not scary at all, but she keeps me motivated, makes sure my form is correct, etc.
Don't be afraid! Most are VERY nice.

This is a really good point. There are a LOT of bad trainers at there, especially at some of the gym chains. I'd ask around for personal references before you try one. My friend has a great trainer out in the Ronkonkoma area (I think) who has his own gym. I think he's only $25 per half hour. She highly recommends him. I can't recommend mine b/c she only works for my company's private gym!
