I contemplated it, b/c I thought there was something wrong with my cat...and I was scared to take her to the vet (b/c they won't cover existing problems)
but she is fine...but the insurance is only like $10/month
for the dog I think it might be more necessary...since he gets into more trouble...he just got stung by a bee on mon night...but he is ok

Re: Pet Insurance
I am not a newleywed, so I hope you don't mind me posting, but I have a lot to say on the topic. We have two cats and one dog. About two years ago, my cat needed a sex change operation (they amputated his penis) because he was having urinary blockages. All of his hospitalizations cost $5000 (in about two weeks). After that, we decided to get it. They are about $20-25 per month for each animal. The first year I had it, we never used it. However, the second year, my other cat knocked over a twenty pound rooster doorstop and ended up cutting his toe off. His surgery cost about $700. But I figured it didn't matter because of the insurance (we have VPI). Well, I only got about $220 back. This did not help me any considering his insurance for the year cost that. I still have it, but it is only because I have been too lazy to cancel it. The problem is that pet costs are so high in NY that the insurance barely covers any of it. Let me know if you have any other questions. It is not that I think it is bad to have, it is just that you probably won't get a significant amount back.
am sorry...ihad to laugh at the 'sex change operation'...I hope he is doing ok!!!

Yes, Jack is doing fine since his penis is now a ******. It is actually kind of funny. My area of expertise in psychology is in transgendered studies.

Re: Pet Insurance
Can I just say...Why on earth is the word v-a-g-i-na starred out like it is a dirty word? That is absolute craziness. But the word penis is fine? I am incredibly insulted by that.

Re: Pet Insurance
As am470 just explained, we're concerned about the coverage. My cousin (who used to have 5 dogs at one time) was telling me how it doesn't really cover all that much.
where's kathy116? she can get us a better answer probably!

Re: Pet Insurance
We got insurance for our dog after she fell out of the bed last year. They thuoght she had broken her leg and would need surgery but thankfully she was ok and it was only a really bad bruise. But after thinking about how much it would have been to get the surgery we thought it would be a good idea to get her insurance. We haven't really needed it yet but it's only like $17/month so it's just kind of good to have just in case.
same as apples - we have it for abbey. $17 a month...I like it. Makes me feel more secure!

Re: Pet Insurance
I just spent a whole lot of $$$ a few weeks ago on a specialist for my little angel. I wonder if I would be able to receive the insurance with the kind of testing I am doing.

Re: Pet Insurance
Cindy if it's a pre existing conditions they probably won't cover it, so definatly check with them about it first.

Re: Pet Insurance
I wanted to get insurance on my dog, but he already had an existing problem, so they wont cover it. I did get a Care Credit card. It's a credit card that I can use when I take him to the vet. It's good because he may need surgery, so instead of paying it in full which would be really expensive I can pay it in payments. The best thing to do is get insurance when their puppies, or kittens before they have any problems.
