Photo Editing Software (x-post from 2010)

I'm bored. I wanna play around with some photo editing software. I have Photoshop Elements 5 (I think) and when I installed it on my comp, I just sat there like an idiot not knowing what to do at all.

Soooooooo, does anyone know of any photo editing software that's good and idiot-proof? I'm usually pretty tech-savvy so I think once I have time to play around with it I can figure it out, but I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a really good program. TIA ladies!

Ulead video studio has photo editing software that is pretty easy to use. If you take a little time to learn photoshop it is an awesome program but it does have a learning curve.

Do you think I'd be able to learn it just by playing around with it? Or would I actually need someone to teach me? Maybe my sister can- she's young and hip.
