Ok I feel like this is on a few posts today so I thought I would make one thread.
It seems like a few of us just got or are looking into new cameras and photography classes.
I just got the Nikon D60 for Christmas. I have been researching classes and photoshop programs.
So far I have come across the Nikonschool.com. They are offering introductory classes in March. It is a Saturday and Sunday (you don't have to take both).
My schedule permitting I am going to sign up for these classes.
Anyone else find anything or have any good input?

Re: Photography Classes
OMG! You read my mind!
I got a Canon 40d a few months ago and am dying to take classes! I was just researching classes today too! I signed up for an intro class at Adorama in NYC - very affordable and its a all day class! You should look into it - its on 1/25/09.
I have done alot of research and my dream is to take classes at the International School of Photography which is like 1 block from my office but the classes are $$$$
I have also found some cheaper classes at Calumet (like $30-50) but they dont have anything interesting coming up soon except a lighting class I might take.
Where are the Nikon classes?

Kristin I actually contacted the school because the offices are in Melville -- much closer then the city to see if they do anything in the evenings. I am also looking into local classes at the colleges or even community centers -- anything to get started.

I will have to look into these. The Nikon classes are at the Hotel Pennslyvania (right across from Penn). I think it is more seminar-ish not really sure.

Re: Photography Classes
I took a 1/2 semester class a while ago at nassau comm coll - it was one night a week for 7 weeks I think? It was interesting, lots about depth of field and different 'tricks' you can do with the camera, etc. Very interesting!

Re: Photography Classes
I have to get a nice camera first i think dh is starting to cave and might let me get it haha
As soon as i get a new camera i want to start taking classes but i think im going to take it at a college because I get a pay raise once i get 30 credits after my masters so i might as well take classes that will count towards this
Is that photography school considered a college?
Im excited about it though because I really want to learn how to take amazing pictures like we always see on this site and possibly do some part time work in the future

Re: Photography Classes
Nikon has good classes i am even going to take some. Nassau has some evening classes for continuing education and suffolk has the same. If you don't want to do a degree I suggest those options.
I had taken up photography at FIT then Nassau before changing to graphic design as my major. I still shoot but I find working with your camera and taking some classes works best. I am trying to find photo clubs as well that will assist you on teaching you at location shoots = nice mix of people who can teach you odds and ends.
Also a good photography book that is current - try to find one of those that will teach you about f-stops and shutter speeds, white balance, flash options, etc.

Re: Photography Classes
Jenise, I don't think the class I took at nassau was very much. Maybe $150??? I had even less money then so I am sure it was not a lot!!!
