Pink Avon Brush

Pink Avon Brush

OK I KNOW ths seems random but during lunch I was talking to an old friend and had lunch with her and her co-workers- bunch of girls together and we were talking about when we used to 'catch it' for being bad.

If anyone oevrhead our convo they would have called Difus lol but seriously it wasn't so bad. I actually NEVER got spanked by my grandmother BUT i did encounter the Pink Avon Brush and ironically so did every other girl at that table which I just found amusing enough to share because were were all different backgrounds but each of us knew about 'the brush'.

The brush that not only served to smooth our lovely locks, but also moonlighted when the wooden spoon was in the shop. It was this pink (pepto bismol) platic brush with a THICK handle and the head of the brush had a dip in the middle.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I remember that brush well...got wacked over the head with it a few times when I started with the wiggling because I didn't want my @ss length hair actualyl combed into two braids rather than the bushwoman mess it was normally.

My cousin also encountered the boomerang effects of the brush.

i got the boomerang brush a few times. . . .oh boy my hair was past my butt and every single day the torture i endured btw my mother and grandmother. . .i remember hearing stories about grandmothers that baked cookies and gave hugs. . .i guess those little girls didnt have grandmothers that lived with them!

mine wasnt the Avon one though LOL
my mom was also known for her boomerang shoe which could hit you in the head AND be back on her foot withhin seconds

and the infamous, broom handle sans broom part. . .my brother and sister broke this in half when i was born so i wouldnt have to experience it. . .

AWW Tilde lol. My grandma never hit me (though she nailed my male cousins good) but she did worse. She used the Catholic Guilt ona 6 yr old. The ol' 'Jesus is watching you be mean to grandma and what do you think he is thinking?' Of course I never got a chance to respond with a cute but wiseass kid remark because she would say...'Abuelita (Grandma) treats you so nicely and she loves you so much. WHY would you make her upset?' Then the fake tears.

LORD let me tell you...TI always used to wonder but now I know that HIS is why i have gotten stress relaeted migraines since i was EIGHT!!! What 8 year old is diagnosed with MIGRAINES?!

But as I paint this portrait let me also throw in that I was Abuelitas FAVORITE and SPOILED OMG SOOOOOOO spoiled and I spent every summer with her so a few migraines were worth it.

My cousin got the shoe boomerang and you know those wiffle bats? His behind and that sucker were REAL well aqquainted...

memories......

My family was all in Germany as I was growing up, so no aunts (tante) or grandmas (oma) for me.

But I do remember the hairbrush on the behind and the wooden spoon. Man did my sis and I run when we heard the kitchen drawer open.
I was the 'good' daughter, so my sister got most of the wooden spoon.

I still have that wooden spoon.....

Uh huh you were the good one....So you say. We should poll her

I only saw the spoon once and that was at a good friend's house. I was visiting and she had 8 brothers and they were causing trouble so her aunt went after EVERYONE with the spoon. It was nuts!

Well my mother was a cruel child abuser. That's what we told her anyway.

And we'd try to call whatever CPS was in the 70s but you only had rotary phones then we were never quite able to finish the call without having the receiver ripped out of our hands...

My poor mom, she was not a hitter either but having 3 kids within 2.5 years PLUS a baby 5 years younger would make even a saint a little um, wound up.

I do remember when she went to yell at one of us, she could never quite get your name until she ran through the full roster of kid's names...

I stood back [hands on hips, scrunched up nose] and went: 'There was an old lady who lived who lived in a SHOE!!!'

And so began the legend of the flying dustpan...

My mom STILL does the roster of names and the best part is that its just me and my brother but she pulls out cousin names, my dad's name, her sisters name...CRAZY!

I was the good one, the good one at not getting caught.
I would beat the heck out of my sis, and she would get in trouble for yelling.
My sis kicked me and broke her little toe right before her 6th grade graduation. She got punished for kicking me. Forgot what I did to provoke that.
But, I do have a 39 year old scar on my left eyebrow courtesy of my sis. She took apart the bed rails and whacked me one good.
It does make for a good eyebrow arch though.

OMG, that is totally guinea guilt. I am a survivor of that as well.. I am hysterically laughing over here..

We got the wooden spoon, plastic spatula, any friggen brush in sight, well.........ANYthing in sight.. even a broken cutting board. My mom was an original. She was a nut, but thats why I loved her.. I miss her and her freak outs

My dad however, got a cookie sheet!! My grama (the crazy italian one) threw a guinea fit and tossed it out the front door.. supposedly the wind took it because it went out the front door and around the side of the house until it cracked my poor dad in the head.. he was a teenager HAHA

my gram has a history of throwing sh!t. She threw her MILs china at my grandfather.. shoes at any individual that crossed her.. I love it.. Now she just chews on her hand when shes pisssed

Can't say I ever did anything wrong but the cousin who used to get his @ss WHUPPED once threw a wooden egg at me and knocked me ouit. Yep ya heard me.A W-O-O-D-E- EGG.

It was one of those ancient pull toys in the shape of a duck and it had this huge solid wood egg as a ride on the back. My aunt asked the girl in the store if children threw them and she assured her no but yep, he did.

I actualyl remember that too which is suprising cause I forget everrything. But I remember the Satanic glee on his face as he hurled it and it hit me in the forehead, made it turn the size of said egg and knocked me out.
