Pink eye from make-up lady

Pink eye from make-up lady

Ok I am posting this for my sister because she doesnt come on here much...

We got our makeup done professionally for her wedding...airbrush and it wasnt cheap. The next day after the wedding she wakes up and her eye is swollen shut and tearing all day long. Then she leaves for the honeymoon and still tearing up and she cant even open it so she goes to the hospital as soon as they land (because it was sunday and clinics werent open) and ends up with a big bill...due to deductible ($200+).

The wedding was less than a month ago and I think she should call the make-up lady to complain! She has the bill to prove she really had pink eye. What do you think...should she call her to complain?

ugh yeah unfortunately when make up is used by different people that can happen. This is especially true with mascara and eye products, they say not to share. But then when you think about it, the make up they use on our eyes is not new for the most part, maybe sometimes. This happened to me once but not from a make up artist. When I was a teenager, like an idiot I used my friends mascara and got some sort of eye infection right after. Ever since then I do NOT share make up. Its funny though and didnt think about it before but I hate sharing make up, meanwhile I will go get my make up professionally done and I am sure most times that make up was used on others. Most things are fine such as foundations with a tube and stuff like that but mascara

I would have your sister call up the make up artist and tell her. She should know that maybe she should clean the brushes and stuff more often, i know theres sprays and stuff to use on the mascara, this way it doesn't happen to others.

I think she should definately call her and tell her- the lady should be aware

I agree with Denise....she should call and tell her so that she knows and it won't happen to someone else. Maybe she will be embarrassed it happened and offer your sister some kind of reimbursement.

First off she needed to do it right away! Secondly, although I believe you it probably came from that it could have happened from anything. Her rubbing her eye and the makeup getting in the tear duct.

I am thinking she obviously should not use her anymore or recommend her. I will probably leave it alone , I am not sure what you get accomplished now at this point. I know if I were a makeup artist I might go she waits till now...?

Just saying.

Ill be honest, I dont think you can get pink eye over night, I believe its like a staff infection and it hibernates~not sure about this but for some reason I am remembering this being told to DH when he got pink eye.

Definitely call her. Hopefully she remembers what she used and throws it out. That really stinks for your sis. Maybe she will offer something for what happened.

Yah but it can be both like bacterial and viral.
It develops within 24-48hrs after the contact.

There is also a allergenic type that could have been from the 'type' of makeup product that she used on your sister - IMO too hard to pin point, and would most probably let it go.

I don't want to offend you Jenna - but you did ask. - It just seems ridiculous to me b/c it is all guesswork and you guys have no real answer or proof to go on about this after so long. It wouldn't hurt to tell the girl, but I would not expect compensation. Bacteria is all over just like a cold. Your sis also could have been stressed and her immune system was down during that very stressful time of wedding planning and caught something she normally would have built up resistance to.

Yeah I guess it could be hard to pinpoint - I guess I just feel bad that she had to feel miserable for 2 days after her wedding and I wanted her to call but not sure if she even will at this point. I would have called as soon as I got back but she never did and its probably a lost cause. I will let her read everyones notes on here and then she can make the decision! Thanks girls!

Honestly it might not even be from that. People who have pink eye are contagious for 14 days after, and even before they get it when they aren't showing any symptoms. All she would have to do is touch a doorknob that was touched by someone who had it and touched their eye before touching it, and then she touches her eye. It's really easy to get it, especially in public places. Trust me, I have had it 3 times, and a few years back my roommate had it in BOTH eyes (one, then the other). I wouldn't necessarily connect it to that...

I am a pink eye expert so I had to respond even though I was being bad and lurking (was a competitive swimming and lifeguard so I used to get pink eye several times a year)...

pink eye has an incubation period. even if you are not sure where your sis got the pink eye from, when the makeup artist used brushes on her she probably transfered the pink eye TO the brushes and maybe a future bride was at risk. Definitely tell the makeup person so at least she knows to chuck her old brushes and stuff so no one else is also put at risk.
