So DH and I wanted to go away to a shore town for our anniversary, but its going to be about $360 a night to go to Newport, Block Island, Martha's Vineyard, Cape May or any place like that. We are summer people so there is no way we are going to find an inland place, we would rather spend the weekend at Seaside Park like our usual weekend plans or stay here and celebrate on Fire Island with dinner.
So now I think we are going to plan a trip as an anniversary present to each other in the fall. We are going to Louisville for 5 days for a wedding in Oct, so DH doesn't have to many vacation days to use so it will have to be short.
So far we are thinking:
A Sandles resort Disney World (we've been there together already though) Universal Studios Key West
Any other good suggestions or suggestions for Sandles or Key West of where to go? We don't want to break the bank.
Oh and I hate cruises since I had a BAD experience on one as a child. So thats out.

How many days total are you looking for? I wouldn't do a sandals for less than 5 days because you need to factor in travel days too. That's why I feel so cheated with our 4 day PR minimoon, it was really only like 2 days. How about Maine?

I loved, loved, loved Key West. I will be going there as part of our cruise, I saw that you hate cruises but had to share, this summer.
I think we stayed in the Heron House but there are tons of Inns. I normally don't like them and would rather stay in a hotel but this was rather cute and goes with the whole vibe. There's great Bahamian food there too. I think the place was called Bahama Mama's or something like that. Sorry this was in 2003 so I can't quite remember all of the details.

Thanks for the advice, we have to see how many vacation days he has left. We have to sit down and look. But I will keep that in mind. We are thinking probably 5 days.
Definitely no on Maine since were looking for fall and we want to be warm. We're not cold weather people.

Yeah I was in a Tropical Depression for 6 out of 7 days and everyone was sea sick. It was horrible. I was little so it wasn't to bad for me, but no one ever told us there was an actual Tropical Storm brewing, they kept saying, oh its another rainy day. Thats what I hate the most about cruises, they keep you in the dark about whats going on around you. My mom threw up all week long, I was sick every night. I will never subject myself to that, especially not in the fall during hurricane season.
Thanks for the advice on Key West.

Have you thought about Mystic?
Dh and I went on our one year anniversary. Such a great little place. Especially during the summer. And the hotel prices are much cheaper than the other places you mentioned. You probably can stay at the Hyatt for under 200 bucks a night and it's very central.

How about the Outer Banks in NC? Or Amelia Island, outside of Jacksonville, FL? Cape Cod isn't too crowded yet, if you you go soon.

I love Key West....I used to visit there once a month for about a year and a half so I can suggest places to eat and stay. The fall is nice but Oct is festival month so prices tend to go up.....if you go before labor day prices are on the cheap side since its their slow season.

Well we will either go for our anniversary in August or after since it would be an present to each other, so going soon is out of the question, but thanks. Were leaning towards a September weekend.

Actually my parents house is just north of Sanibel right on the gulf, we could always go down there just us and it would be cheaper. Just wanted to do something different. Thanks for the suggestion though, I didn't even think about going to the Florida house until you said that.

Re: Planning a Trip - suggestions needed
i LOVE LOVE new orleans. its like a home away from home for dh and i. you can go for relatively cheap but of course then theres meals and things. you can eat very cheap or you can spend loads...some of the best restaurants in the world.
Puerto Rico. not super expensive/not super cheap.
were going to Jamaica for a 5 night vacation in August and researched a lot. i dont think we are spending too much but its not too cheap either...we also are staying at a couples resort and couldve stayed somewhere cheaper.
dominican republic has some reasonable prices but they have gone up A LOT since a few years ago.
anyway, i just researched a lot of hotels and packages for puerto rico, dr, jamaica, bahamas, and mexico, so if you are interested in any of those or new orleans, id be happy to help.
ETA: ooo sorry, new orleans doesnt have a beach and you wouldnt want to swim in it now, even if it did but it sures is hot and the hotels have pools
