DH's birthday is in 2 weeks and he informed me today that 'everybody got PS2 but me' -- oh boo hoo! Like he was so deprived on Christmas!! So, my mission, which I am choosing by default (LOL) is get him this. I am totally clueless about any of these systems, so that's where my LIW pals come in! Where is the best place to go? Thanks!

Re: PlayStation 2
Best Buy is usually pretty good. FH got it for x-mas. It only comes with one remote, so if you want to get in on the action make sure you pick up an extra.

Re: PlayStation 2
where do you live I got an XBOX at PC richards in levittown I go to Alonzo only, he is a doll!
you can go there, unfortunately w/ xbox and play station there is not much price negotiating as per the mfg. so the price is pretty much the price

Re: PlayStation 2
PS2 is about $200 (not including extra remote you need to buy) practically everywhere BUT I love Best Buy...you can get maintenance agreements on any of their stuff and it pays to get it in case anything happens, etc. Their policies are great.

Re: PlayStation 2
I would wait for the sunday paper. Some stores give you stuff with the purchase. Like I think Kbtoys this season gave away a free carry case and remote, others give games (biut dont get excited these are usually very old games). For the most part hell be playing alone so i dont think you need to waste money on another controller right away especially if he has Playstation one, the controllers are interchangable. I would definatly get him a memory card. I would call, Game stop electronic boutique, Toys Rus, circut city, and kbtoys to see whos giving what away with the purchase...
Edited to say the reason why you need to get a memory card is because you need to have one in order to play some of the games.

Re: PlayStation 2
I have one at home, and my husband uses the one controller to the other when he needs it, now i dont know if he did something to make that happen.. but i will say for the most part we have about 20 playstation 2 games and only maybe 2 of those are 2 player games anyway.. unless your husband is a sports guy, (my husband loves to watch sports but doesnt play them on ps2) you wont need the remote..but you never know someone might be giving it away for free!! LOL

Re: PlayStation 2
Ya know, now that I'm reading all these posts, maybe it's not a good idea I get him this because I never get to watch tv in the livingroom to begin with and if he has this FORGET ABOUT IT!!!! I'll be banished to the kitchen/bedroom forever!

Re: PlayStation 2
If you're an online shopper, search for the sales first, but always check on NETMARKET.com and see if their price beats it, it usually does, that's where I bought FH his.

Re: PlayStation 2
Bearsbabe, Actually I'm getting married at St. Joseph's in Kings Park. So many have the same name, it gets confusing. BTW, tonight we picked up the extra remote ($24.99) and memory cards (2 for $39.99) at Target. They had cheaper remotes, $ 12.99 or 14.99, but FH had to have the Sony one.

Re: PlayStation 2
Debbie, DON'T DO IT!!! If you like your living room time, tread carefully. I am constantly coming home from running errands to find FH and BM playing football. In between games of PS2 football, they watch college/NFL games. Bye bye afternoon of relaxing for me I wish I could take it back. Seriously, when do men outgrow these kinds of toys?

Re: PlayStation 2
I just bought PS2 for my hubby for his b-day. I got it for $199 at circuit city. I was also told by his friends that he needs to have an extra controller and a memory card (very important for the long games that go on for days/weeks).
He loves Virtua Fighter 4 (and i've actually learned to like it too) and Grand Theft Auto Vice City. I don't particularly like this game because of it's lifelike violent content (prostitutes, car jacking, shooting - it's actually AMAZING to watch and completely addicting....) I was in shock to know that my 12 year old students play this game -- what parent would EVER let their kid's hands on this game???
I hope he likes it as much as my hubby does! I won the wife of the year award for this gift

Re: PlayStation 2
You guys are cracking me up!!! All weekend long I had to hear him whine about how 'everybody has it but him' -- awwww the poor baby is soooo deprived!! Like I didn't buy him every other friggin thing on his list to Santa!! LOL
As for the livingroom, Becky, that is his 'domain' from the time he comes home from work, until I get home about 3 hours later and if it's Monday, forget about it, Monday Night Football and ESPN whatever and you name it. I sit in the kitchen with my little 19' tv happy as a lark, except for the fact that the **** chairs are sooooo uncomfortable (guess who picked them out) and my a$$ starts falling asleep and hurting by the time I'm finished watching my shows!!!!
I thank you all for your great advice and help in this matter!!
As to the question of when will boys grow up, I didn't know that they ever did!!! Don't you know that it's MEN that create all these 'toys' for them to keep playing with??!!!!!!
Case in point, my big chooch (said ever so lovingly ) will be having a SpongeBob themed b'day party!!! Could you ever?

Re: PlayStation 2
I also bought PS2 for my husband for Christmas. I bought it at Target for $200.
I also just found out that Costco has it on sale for $285 and you get the system, 2 controllers, and memory card, and 2 games. Granted, the games are old, but hey, they are games! You can even order it on-line.
