please recommend hotels in san fran and san diego...

i've looked on tripadvisor and searched the web but wanted some input from you ladies if you have ever been..

we are not looking for anything too fancy just a reasonable hotel..

We are planning to spend 3 days in san diego and then drive up to san francisco and stay there for 3 days... making stops along the way to break up the trip..

TIA for your recommendations!!

We were in San Diego in November 07' and stayed at the Embassy Suites....It was a company trip, so the expenses were paid, otherwise I don't think we could have afforded it. I think it's a little expensive. It's a really nice hotel though, and they offer a free buffet continential breakfast every morning & a happy hour type thing at night for free.
Other than that, I'm not sure about where to stay, but know that there are a lot of options.
Good luck planning and have fun!

PS. Definately go to the Zoo if you haven't been before. We loved it!

We stayed at the Omni in downtown San Fran and loved it. It was clean, the beds were comfy and the staff was really helpful.

I reccomend the Grand Hyatt on Stockton Street, its right in downtown San Francisco/union square, the location doesnt really get much better than that. All of our friends that come visit from out of town stay there and they all say that they loved it...that the hotel is really nice and you cant beat the location.

We stayed at a Marriott Courtyard in the Gaslamp District of San Diego. It was VERY cool! It is an old bank that has been renovated.

In San Francisco, we stayed at the Sir Francis Drake. We had one or two minor problems with them. But it is a funky place to go for a drink. Harry Denton's Starlight Room is on the top floor. If you are interested in that, you need a reservation.

We drove up the California coast for our honeymoon and stopped at lots of cool places. Hearst Castle is really amazing! It is a little north of Santa Barbara.

FM me if you want any info or reccommendations.

When we were last in SF, we stayed at the Sheraton Four Points in Emeryville. It's right off the Bay Bridge and very easy to get in and out of the city from there via car, or a short drive over to Oakland to pick up the commuter ferry into the city.
