Ladies this has been a horrible week.

Our puppy Shelby is so sick. This is gross, but she has had diareah so bad and now when she tries to go only blood is literally spraying out. She is teething and very lathargic. The vet gave her a shot today that she a reaction to and now has a GIANT welp down her back. I feel so bad for her. I had to bath her 2 times today already because she has messed all over herself.

Oh Christy!! I am so sorry Shelby is not feeling well! Do they know why she is sick?? I hope she gets better quickly!

I'm so sorry we actually went through this 3 months ago with our puppy it was horrible I was taking him outside every 30-40 min for 2 days straight it was sooooo bad. We had blood work done, which was HELL for him and me to watch, and tons of different medications.

I started him on acidopholus pills, which are the natural good bacteria found in your intestines and that helped IMMENSELY but he had to be on them for 2 months until his GI track got healthy again but we are now Diahrhea free!

I am sooo sorry. i hope Shelby feels better soon. We actually went throught this in December. Our lil one decided to eat soemthing outside that irritated her GI and she had diarreah for a week. We took her to the vet and they gave her IV's, dehydrated her with a shot, she was also on antidiarreah medicine and antibiotics. Can she eat if so our vet recommended chicken and rice to bind the tummy so she can go normally. We got canned food of chicken and rice from him and it seemed to work.

Aww poor Shelby!!! I hope she feels better soon. My dog had similar problems, like a lot of people have said, so even though it looks really scary it's actually fairly common for dogs to have bloody diarrhea if it's an upper digestive tract issue. Once the vet tells you what's up, I highly recommend either metronidazole (I think the brand name is called Flagyl) or Tylocin powder (which isn't a pill so it tastes better). Both are prescriptions but the vet might suggest them and they work great. Make sure she gets enough water so she's not dehydrated. A good trick is to pinch the skin on her back - if it snaps back to position she's got enough water in her - if it just kind of flops she is dehydrated. You can also check by feeling the inside of her mouth - St Bernards are kinda drooly lol so if she feels clammy or sticky she might not be getting enough.

The vet sent me home with dewormer, an atibiotic and a special canned diet for a few days. At about 8 pm last night she still had very bad bloody diareah. But after that she completely stopped going #2. I have been trying but nothing. She does seem a little perkier today though. Thank you for all your thoughts ladies!!!!!!!!!!!
