Pls post photos of your drapes!

I bought panels for my living room window but due to the configuration of the window to the wall, Im not sure where the rod/curtains/holdbacks should go in relation to the window frame. Should I attach the rod above the wooden window mouldings or directly on top of it? Should the tie backs be outside the window moulding or on top of it?

If anyone has suggestions or photos of what you did, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

We need a little more information

- Do you have high ceilings that you want to show off?

- Do you have nice molding at the ceiling level as well as the molding around the window?

If so you probably want to bring the top of the pannel to the bottom of the ceiling molding so you have no gap.

If you don't have nice molding at the ceiling level you need to decide if you want to show the window molding. Its really a personal preference if you do or not. You also need to keep in mind the scale of the windows with drapes in comparison to the entire wall.

Another thing to consider is the type of walls you have. I had plaster walls in my CoOp and they held nothing up. I had no choice but to hang everything from the wood moldings around the windows.

I do not have crown molding. The molding around the window is okay but nothing spectacular. I do not have high ceilings. My walls are sheetrock so it SHOULD hold the rod (keeping fingers crossed)

Im concerned with it looking weird AFTER i have drilled holes in the wall/wood. The photos of panels online always show very plain walls without wood moldings.

I dont have a scanner hooked up, so I cant show you my curtains.
I have my rods a little above the window molding on some windows, and some I put right on the molding. Either way the drapes will cover the molding, so it will not look weird at all.
I have pull backs too, they are metal. I put them about 3/4 the way down the side of our bow window.

Have Luke hold up the rods to see if you like them in a certain spot. That is what I do.

OMG- I can't believe you ladies actually have curtains! I am so busy we are lucky we have blinds- and we have lived here for 3 years. Even worse, all my shower gifts are still in boxes in our kitchen/dining area since October because we have had no time to buy a pantry/china cabinet thingy. How terrible is that? You guys are inspiring me to get organized and start nesting again.

jlf: Dont feel bad. Ive lived in my house for close to 5 years. (although we have had blinds since day one b/c I wouldnt want anyone looking in). Better to take your time and like it than rush it to hate it.

Here are our living room curtains - we have the rod right over the window frame molding.

When we had tiebacks, we attached them to the wall along the window frame.

Thanks Christine. How did you like the tie backs along the wall? Did they show when you had the curtains hanging freely?

Im still waiting for my IVORY panel for the middle or ID post mine

but I have a three piece Jabo set up top
and my drapes w/ the tie back --- ON the inside part I used a Gold thumbtack you cant even see it though b/c the tie back is so thick

Re: Pls post photos of your drapes!

Yes, you could see the tiebacks, so we always had the curtains pulled back. They were the U-shaped metal ones that were attached to the wall. I didnt like them so we changed the curtains to these - since the middle panels are light, we get light and privacy at the same time.

Can you use a fabric tie back that hooks to one of those c-screws attached to the side of the window? You wouldn't see that when you close the curtains but can pull them back for light.
