Poconos

Poconos

Can anyone recommend any hotels/resorts they stayed at?
I'm thinking we can go for a few days for NYE.

We've been to Cove Haven and want something different.

Something with skiing, snow tubing, etc..

TIA

Re: Poconos

I like skytop but can be pricey and not sure how much they would charge for NYE, thats my favorite place in the poconos. You can also try caesars or the updated mount airy lodge which now has a casino inside. However skytop does have skiing, snow tubing, snow shoeing and all those activities and activities are included in their price plus breakfast, lunch and dinner. Did i recommend this to you recently? lol

Theres also lots of little rentals and cute small places.

If you also need any recommendations for restaurants let me know. Dh has a house there and well we used to go all the time, havent recentlybut still can tell u where we love to go eat but his family does go just about every weekend. I was gonna go to his house in the poconos for NYE until we got a free room in the city for the night. But i still want to go soon

Re: Poconos

We usually stay at a Marriott near Allentown and then just bounce back and forth between Shawnee & Jack Frost- we like Jack Frost because its combined with Big Boulder now- and you can ski from 8am-5pm at Jack Frost & then free at Big Boulder from 5pm-midnight- its also a lot cheaper than booking at a resort

Can you buy ski/snow tubing separately?

no but i can ask dh about it, i think he would know, his parents have that house in the poconos since he is 13 so he has been going a long time and knows the area well.

I forgot to give you the site before. Are you looking for a regular room, suite or what type of room or atmosphere. SKy top is on 5500 acres so its huge, has its own lake, skiing area, lots of grassy area. Theres a lodge, inn and there are also cabins, so you can choose whatever you would prefer. I have stayed at the lodge and the inn. The lodge is like a big mansion it looks like, its real nice and the rooms are nice and cozy. I like the inn though, its a bit smaller but i like the rooms a little better. They all have fire places, the rooms are bigger and you have a big balcony. I havent stayed in the cabins but MIL went to see them and she said theyre pretty big and real nice. The good thing is that theres also a shuttle that takes you from place to place. Whenever we wanted to go from the inn to the lodge we would just get downstairs and tell them to call the shuttle and would be there in mins, and even late at night its available.

they also have an ice skating ring, 30 miles of hiking trails, they do hay rides, indoor pool, sledding, they have a spa which is great and many more things

Here is the site, not sure if theyll have something available on such short notice for NYE but you never know

Re: Poconos

There are soooo many places in the Poconos - the ski lodges will charge an arm and a leg so best thing to do is stay at a local hotel and go to the ski places every day ... My parents have a house there, and the shannon inn is close to shawnee. I stayed there years ago, nice place.

my parents also stayed at the summit - kinda like a mount airy lodge place but cheaper and a little outdated they said, but nice. they had snowmobiles you could rent and play with on premises ...

yeah it can be pricey, the only good thing about it is that all 3 meals are included in the rate per day. Breakfast and lunch are these huge buffets but they also make the crepes for you in front of you and omelettes and have tons of things. For dinner they are restaurants, and nice restaurants too and the food is so good and its things that normally would cost alot, like they have food with truffles and that sort of stuff.

good luck with booking a place, ill ask dh when he gets home about other places. Maybe i should tell him to rent out his house on weekends nobody is there

maybe do the poconos another time like v-day or something if theres nothing available on short notice. Or do you really want to go for NYE? have you tried mount airy lodge? not sure what its like but they did update it soon and the casino there should be fun, its all slots though but still.

Or have you thought of maybe getting a room in the city, MAYBE theres still something available.

Re: Poconos

We just wanted something to do for NYE since this is our first NYE married.

I would stay at a hotel in NYC but i'd want something overlooking Time Sq and those hotels book years in advance
