Poll: Avon vs. Mary Kay

I've been thinking about starting to sell one on the side, but I can't decide. I was hoping maybe some of you would have some insight.

I know that Avon is lower priced and has a more diversified product line, but they don't let you sell online, like Mary Kay does.

Any opinions? Are both a waste of my time?

Re: Poll: Avon vs. Mary Kay

Online sales probably hurt the in-home sales person, since that means that no visit is required. I happen to think that both companies make some good products. For over 30 years my grandma only used Avon nail products and her nails always looked beautiful. I happen to think Mary Kay makes some great skin care products and lip gloss. I think you need to look at their sales policies, your commission rates/policies, and start up costs. All of that could vary a lot and help you make your decision quickly.

Re: Poll: Avon vs. Mary Kay

I sold Avon for a few months because my friend was a Rep & became very ill..I took over her business until she got better. I have also worked for a few other multi-level sales companies when I was younger. I think Avon reaches a much wider range of people, because its not just make-up.
The biggest challenge with any of these things is not spending your commision on things for yourself
Good Luck!

I prefer Avon over Mary Kay
I can relate with selling things on the side, I sell Partylite Candles for extra $$$. Good Luck with whichever you decide

Re: Poll: Avon vs. Mary Kay

Even though I use some Mary Kay products I still liek AVON. its easier to find a rep for Avon then Mary Kay IMO. The only way I was able to get Mary Kay products is b/c my cousin did it but now she has moved to Fla.

Re: Poll: Avon vs. Mary Kay

There is an interesting article in Jane Magazine this month about Mary Kay. My friend Anna is featured in the article. Pretty much talks about what a great opp. you can get through Mary Kay. She is doing amazing...already a Top Sales Director and has been doing it for less than a year. That article may help give you some perspective.

I think Avon sells online, I was able to purchase a few things back in June, but I don't know who gets comission for it.

Re: Poll: Avon vs. Mary Kay

Thanks for your input.

The commissions for both with regard to personal selling are similar, so that's not a big factor.

People can buy thru Avon.com but I get a smaller commission. I prefer Avon to Mary Kay, but I like that with Mary Kay I can have my own website for my friends and family that don't live near here.

I'm sure that (as usual) I'm overthinking it. Thanks again.

Cathy
