Poll: How much do you take out of your paycheck for the week??

Do you and DH have a set amount that you take out and put the rest away?

We try and take it out as we need it.

We take out what we need. We dont have a budget when it comes to daily expenses. Instead we have a savings goal we want to reach at the end of the year and manage to that.

We sorta do what Stef does, for a long time we were putting my paycheck (give or take a little) in savings as our goal. DHs check goes into our bills and spending account.

we each get an 'allowance' from our paychecks. The entire amount it taken out on payday for the next 2 weeks. That usually tides us over until the next paycheck. Its for lunches/Breakfast, reading materials, anything that we want personally. Everything else that we need to pay for is budgeted...gas, train ticket, food, clothing.

Pretty much what Stef and Lisa are doing...However, we are trying to pay of some credit cards and get rid of some high interest cards. This way, we only have 1 or 2 low ones we can both use.

same here, we take out what we might need, plus trying to save and pay off credit cards. We opened up a holiday account, but will use it for a trip instead of the holidays

We do not have any set amount that we take out. We put in to savings and investments, we have a goal that we have set and we pay whatever bills we both have, whatever is left after that is all play money.

My paycheck goes straight to the bank and pays our bills. We get spending money and savings from DH's check.

Dh's check goes to bills, My check goes to saving/spending.

You mean the money that comes out of an ATM isn't from some random place

I try to be 'good' by bringing some lunches, not going nuts on dinners out, but normally we just use what we need during the week. Any big purchases are discussed though.

I deposit my paycheck into my checking account to pay bills, rent, etc. DH puts equal amount into our joint savings. Then we play with the rest or put into savings. Typically, I take about $150-200 a week for subway fare, lunch, dry cleaning, food and personal expenses - it really depends on what I have planned socially for the week whether I spend it or use more. I have no clue how much DH uses a week but I figure close to the same.

I am glad I read this post - DH and I are sitting down tonight to combine the finances and set our budgets! Thanks for the ideas - I will let you know what we decide to do......

15% goes straight to my 401K - same with DH. I have a set amount from mine that goes into checking for groceries and such, the balance goes into savings, as does all of DH's.

For spending, we have a budgeted amount we can pull from the ATM for incedentals like gas, reading materials, lunches out, haircuts, etc. on a weekly basis, though I rarely pull all of it out.

When it comes time to pay bills, we transfer just what we need from savings to checking. Don't have any balances on credit cards, and limit what we put on there, so since our spending is pretty much in control, we don't really have to budget strictly. That leaves a growing balance in savings for large purchases like furniture, and depositing to an IRA or other long-term savings.
