1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon peppermint extract
1 egg
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon red food color
2 tablespoons finely crushed peppermint candies
2 tablespoons sugar
1. Stir together 1 cup sugar, the butter, milk, vanilla, peppermint extract and egg in large bowl. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Divide dough in half. Stir food color into 1 half. Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours.

2. Heat oven to 375ºF.

3. Stir together peppermint candy and 2 tablespoon sugar; set aside.

4. For each candy cane, shape 1 rounded teaspoon dough from each half into 4-inch rope by rolling back and forth on floured surface. Place 1 red and white rope side by side; press together lightly and twist. Place on ungreased cookie sheet; curve top of cookie down to form handle of cane.
5. Bake 9 to 12 minutes or until set and very light brown. Immediately sprinkle candy mixture over cookies. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes
These cookies are a lot of work to make but they are so good.

Pressed Sugar cookies:
Ingredients:
16 Tbs. (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room
temperature
1 cup sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
Colored sugars or icings for decorating

Directions:
Preheat an oven to 375°F.

In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine the butter and sugar. Beat on high speed until light and fluffy, scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed. Add the egg, vanilla and salt and continue beating until well mixed. Using a spoon, stir in the flour until blended.

Pack the cookie dough into a cookie press according to the manufacturer's instructions. Fit with the desired-shaped cookie plate and press the dough out onto ungreased baking sheets or sheets lined with Silpat nonstick liners, spacing the cookies 1 inch apart.

Bake until the cookies are light golden, about 10 minutes. Transfer the cookies to wire racks and let cool. Decorate with colored sugars or icings as desired. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. Makes 40 to 60 cookies.

No I don't. I know I am strange. I never did, not even as a kid. Or nuts for that matter.

I have had these cookies and they are so buttery and pretty

I found this recipe for them on food network:

Stained Glass Cookies
* 1 cup sugar
* 2 sticks butter
* 2 eggs
* 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
* 3 cups all-purpose flour
* Assorted brightly colored, hard candies
* 1 (2 to 3-inch) star cookie cutter
* Special Equipment: 1 small triangle cookie cutter

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a mixer with a paddle attachment, cream the sugar and butter until smooth. Add the egg and the vanilla extract. Mix in the flour. Remove the dough from the mixer and press into a rectangular shape. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Remove from the refrigerator and cut dough into 1/3. Roll out dough, 1 piece at a time to a 3/16-inch thickness. Cut out as many large stars as possible. Repeat with all of the dough. Cut a small triangle out of each the arms on each star.

Place the hard candy, by color, into small plastic bags. Place a towel over the bags and crush the candy with a meat mallet. Place all of the cookies on parchment lined sheet pans. In each of the triangle holes, fill with different colors of crushed hard candy. Bake in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until lightly golden brown, and the candy has melted.

This is a picture of them made.

I’m making them tonight… even though it’s the simplest recipe ever I manage to DESTROY the kitchen every time! By the end of the night there's pretty much Oreo everywhere. It’s bc I’m lazy and try to take shortcuts that end up just making giant messes.
