Prayers Needed & Unemployment ?...XP from '08

So my job is making cutbacks and practically rearranging everything. Its a national company and they're closing our offices in FL, WA AND AZ. Their transfering calls from our office to the other AZ office and cutting our hours. I'm part-time so I was only working 29 hours, now I've been cut down to 25.

Last week they announced they were looking to let people go. Today, corporate called my boss and she had my supervisor tell me and 2 other ladies that we are the candidates right now for getting let go because we are partime and work the most hrs out of other part timers. Next week the president is coming from AZ and he is going to decide who to let go. They want 2-3 people gone. What they dont understand is the amount of work that we do and they think letting people go is going to be easy on the company. They have no idea how this office is run. We only have 9 employees. What annoys me is that they're going to keep this slacker kid who only works 20 hrs a week doing NOTHING because he works the less hours.

This is the LAST thing we need right now. I was so naive to think that this recession wasnt going to affect me. I start my last yr of school in August and my internship I was looking to stay here only because of the flexible hrs. Now my only option is to collect unemployment.

So my question to those that collected unemployment....how much did you recieve compared to what you were making at your job? Does marital status affect what you get? Im just afraid that because I'm married and he makes more than what I do, they'll give me very little or nothing at all.

Anyway, please pray I dont have to even worry about this.

Unemployment in NY is half of your average weekly earnings - up to about $400 max - regardless of what your husband makes. You can collect it for six months.

maybe you can persuade your employer to let the young kid go instead of you. What you wrote in your OP is pretty convincing.

funny thing is he's older than me but i say hes a kid cuz hes a bit immature and spends his paychecks on video games and movies

Dh was on unemployment and his checks were literally cut in half of what he was making. I believe they go by your taxes for the previous year.. And being married has nothing to do with it.

i heard there is a new law going into effect that might increase unemployment from 26 weeks to 52 weeks because of the recession

Sorry to crash but I was on unemployment a few months ago. What they did for me is they go back 18 months of work history. They then take the highest paid quater and divide it by 26 (number of weeks you can get unemployement) and give you that. Mine was $7800 so I ended up with $300 per week. HTH

I was on unemployment about 8 years ago... I was making 405 a week (the maximum) which was a little more than my salary..

The reason why I got so much was because I worked at LEAST 30 hours O/T each week and was making practically double my salary with the time & 1/2

So sorry about your situation!!!

Not sure if this makes you feel better, but the way unemployment works is that you will get 1/2 of your weekly gross salary UP TO a maximum of $405 per week (your spouse's income has no bearing in how much you get). So if your gross pay is at least $810 per week (not your take home pay, your pay before they take out taxes), then you will get the max of $405 per week.

Otherwise, you'll get 1/2 of your gross pay.
