pregnancy and weight

pregnancy and weight

My husband and I have been talking alot lately about kids and when we want to start. We decided to start trying to get pregnant within a year. My fear is I'm overweight and I really want to try to lose weight -- have been seriously trying for a year. Now I really feel pressured to lose this weight before getting pregnant so I'm not a total house when I do get pregnant.

Anyone else in the same boat? Also want are those who are planning or already pregnant done to get ready -- health wise?

Thanks!

Me too

I'm in EXACTLY the same boat. I'm going to Weight Watchers now, and I'm completing my second week (VERY early into it, obviously). I've done it before, and lost 50 pounds, but gained it all back since then. This time I'm more determined, and I'm combining it with exercise. But, two things - I'm afraid that I really HAVE to lose weight if I'm ever to get pregnant, and then on the other hand, I'm upset that once I do lose the weight, I will gain so much back when I DO get pregnant.

I'm nervous about the whole thing, actually.

NERVE WRACKING, HUH?
I was advised at the end of last yr that it would be better for me to loose weight b4 trying to have a child.
I had lost about 15 pounds on WW leading up to the wedding but I had joined at work, joined a gym across the street from work and had another dedicated co worker egging me on.
I am sure the anxiety of planning a wedding also added to it.
Now that I am married and rob is a wonderful cook, I was bound to go back up.

So, I am trying to lose but by cutting back portion sizes. I try to walk everywhere possible...but winter is not a good time for outside activites...and getting home from work at 9pm doesnt give the time or drive to go to a gym.

WE actually talked about having a baby last nite and his reposnse was ' I thought you wanted to lose weight first'. Told him it took me 8 months last time...and I dont have the time to wait until october b4 we start trying.
Seems like I can't win on this one.
I think we're both ready to try...and with my calculations, if we were lucky & it happpened right away, this baby wouldnt arrive until dec-jan 03!.
Work wise and age wise sooner would prob be better than later.
ARGH- Help? what is wrong with me?

Oh my and I thought I was the only one thinking this...
Mitch and I talked about it and I told him that I really need to loose weight about 20-30 Lbs. I am also doing weight watchers..but it is sooooooo hard. Mitch loves to eat..expecially starchy foods . I have been fighting with my weight for so long that is soooo hard to take it off this time.
I want to be in better health because if you start out overweight before you getwant to have a baby you have a greater risk for gestational Diabetes, preclampsia...so i am very worried and when I get worried.. I eat..so i guess it is going to be a very long battle

UGH

Well at least I'm happy to hear others are feeling the same way. I also had that fear Lauren that once I lose the weight I would be a total freak about gaining it back and not want to get pregnant. I would want to enjoy being thin first.

I've tried so many times to lose weight but I've always had a hard time. I've been working out seriously since Jan. last year and I haven't lost anything -- I've toned up but can't seem to lose the weight. I've thought about going to a nutritionist to devise a meal plan and way of eating that would be appropriate for me -- rather than just going on a diet that is generic for all body types.

Working out isn't the hard part for me. We have a fitness facility at work so I go there M-Thursday and I have gym I belong to that I can go to on the weekends. For me it's time for preparing meals. I work in a place where we can't bring in food (because of contamination -- i work at a plant) and I work four 10 hour days. So those days make it hard. I get to work at 7am until 5:30pm try to work out usually get home around 7:15-7:30pm and then I'm too pooped to make dinner. So there are a few things I need to work out.

I have a GYN appt next month so I'm going to ask the Dr. what other things she suggests to get ready for pregnancy.

I think we all need to not stress and make some REALISTIC goals for the next few months.

I am in the same boat - I must say I am glad to hear I have company. I have a GYN appt tomorrow and I know he is going to crack me on the weight issue - but I also know time is running out (Im 43)so I am going to just have to do the best I can all the way around. My Husband working nights isnt helping :(

Im really glad to have this board - it helps to vent a little.

Well, I am dieting like mad after having our baby...(I am STARVING!!!) Anyway, I could have stood to lose about 10-20 pounds before getting pregnant but she was a surprise..we really didn't plan things out. If I had to do things over I would have lost the weight before getting pregnant, even though I didn't eat much during my pregnancy I think the metabolism slows down and it is so much harder to lose weight afterwards. I don't know if that is what it is ...only my theory. Now that I am dieting and trying to exercise for the past 2 months I have only lost about 10 pounds. I think I might have plateaued...maybe???? I am just anxious to get into my old jeans I guess!!!

pregnancy and weight

Me and my husband have been trying for a while and nothing seems to be happening. But I am trying not to get too stressed out about it. I know my GYN told me I should loose weight (only 20-30lbs over weight) which I have been on Weight Watchers now for about 3 weeks and have lost 10 lbs already. At times it gets very stressful in my house. Well always nice to vent. Who knows now if it is the weight but now me and my husband are going for some tests to see what is going on. On top of this we are trying to buy a house and sell our apartment too.

Let's strive to lose a healthy amount of weight -- in a healthy amount of time. Unfortunately for it to be healthy it has to be slow and it's so frustrating not to see results quicker.

All this stress is really not working for all of us -- it's defeating the purpose.

One of things I've started is a food journal to record my food and exercise. It hasn't really hit me yet -- I'm just recording and not really looking back at it. But atleast it makes me think about what I am eating. Also another good thing is to give yourself some rewards after completed some fitness/health goals. Then you have something to look forward to as you make small changes.
Now if I can only follow my own advice.

I am SO glad you guys are here!

We are also trying to get pregnant and I am also 30 pounds overweight. I've been beating myself up for some time - wondering how I could have let myself go, and how I didn't even lose any weight for my own wedding!! How pathetic am I?? While I would love to have lost all this extra weight, I do have the go ahead from the GYN to get pregnant. I've been told that when you are overweight, your main challenge is not to gain the same total pg weight as someone who is a 'normal' weight. For example, someone at 'normal' weight can gain 25 - 30lbs. Someone like me should probably only shoot for 15-20.

I'm constantly battling in my head. My SIL had a hard time getting pregnant with her third - seems she was working out too hard and the running actually effected her fertility. So do I exercise, or not? Sigh. I just am keeping my fingers crossed that we do get pregnant and I am healthy. I am healthy otherwise, so hopefully I will be o.k.

I'm really soooo glad to know that there are others who struggle with this! You guys made my morning! Good Luck to you all!!

I am not quite in the same boat as you, but I know what it is like to need support at a time like this, after all it's a major goal. I recommend going to Ultimate Baby.com. They have forums specifically for women who are living with this battle. Good luck on your journey
