Pregnancy Question on genetic tests

Pregnancy Question on genetic tests

My doctor doesn't give a lot of info. - I have been reading up on things - and the books say that you need to do the genetic testing the 17th week.
Well my next appointment will be week 18 -
Can anyone tell me a little about the testing and when their doctor did this test?
I have been thinking about changing doctors but I'm just not sure if what I am experiencing is normal or not. I just fell like he doesn't say much. Do the doctors assume you are reading? I am reading, however I would like to get some more info. from him direct?
Thanks!!!

I'm not pregnant and can't give you answers to your question. I would hate to have a dr who doesn't give me info.
Have you thought about getting a midwife? I just read an article about how helpful they are and how you get much more personal attention. Maybe you can get one if your insurance covers it. Many OB GYN's have midwives that are associated with their practice.

Tara,

Here is a very useful link to find the information you are looking for prenatal testing

CVS is usually done between 10 - 12 weeks
AFP between 15-20
Amnio between 15 - 18

The website goes into much more detail. Hope it is helpful

dr...

if yuo are thinking of changing drs then i would suggest looking at practices that have a dr and midwives. That is what I havve...and mOST of my appts are with the midwives. Very understanding, and less embarrasing to ask ?s to. They also deliver the babies- with some patients asking only for the DR to deliver.

He told me that he makes a point to be in the hospital when his patinets are there, comes in to ck but if all is well, will leave it up to the midwives.

I am so comofrtable with this group that I continue to see th em altho I live in Long Beach and they are in BKLYN!
Let me know if you need their nubmer!
