pregnant bridesmaids?

Also posted on BHB-need your advice
My sister in law is going to try to get pregnant before my wedding. Also my friend is going to as well. I want them both in the bridal party, although haven't asked them yet. My sister in law knows she is a BM, but I haven't asked my friend yet. My friend, because of health reasons cannot try to get pregant before December, which cuts it close to the wedding.

1. Do I ask my friend to be in my BP, but while telling her that it is ok if she doesn't want to be because of the pregnancy?

2. If they are pregnant and in the BP, is it hard to be involved, go to fittings etc?

I don't want my friend to feel obligated to be in it.

3. How many of you have or have pregnant BMs? How did it go?
Thanks!

Re: pregnant bridesmaids?

I had a BM who was 6 months pregnant at my wedding. She was very involved in all aspects of planning the wedding, the shower and my emotional support. To top things off she also lives in another state.

She had a fairly normal preganancy so there were no problems.

Re: pregnant bridesmaids?

I was 7 months pregnant when I was in my friends bridal party. I was involved w/ pretty much everything. I was even out till 5:15am for her bacherollette party!!! It all depends on how they feel.

I would definatley ask her.

Re: pregnant bridesmaids?

my sister was my MOH and 5 1/2 months pregnant for my wedding. she actually felt BAD telling me she was preggo, how silly is that? It was fine. We got her a larger dress which was taken in to fit her. she was able to attend my bachelorette party (the dinner and spa portion) AND throw my shower. IT wasn't hard for her, pregnant and with 2 kids at home. ask your friend what she thinks about it. tell her when you ask her that you understand if she thinks its too much of a strain.

Re: pregnant bridesmaids?

I didn't have one but wanted one because they are so cute! LOL

Many of my friends had pregnant BM's or were pregnant when they were BM's. I would ask her and be honest and tell her you would love to have her if it is not too much for her with being pregnant. Depending on how pregant they are, will determine their fittings. My friend had a BM who unexpectantly got pregnant and we got lucky because my dress was way too big so her and I switched BM dresses and it worked perfectly. I know most people in the early stages just order a couple sizes bigger than what they normally wear. If they are further along, I have seen BM's get a dress/same color in a complimentary style. If I am not mistaken some mfgs may have maternity dresses.

Re: pregnant bridesmaids?

I am 3 months pregnant (just started the 4th month) and I am in 2 weddings in the next 2 weeks. I had no problem with the dress. Just has to be ordered big and tell the alterations dept that the BM is pregnant. (RK says they don't do alterations on pregnant girls...whatever)

I just went to the bachelorette party for one of the girls and had a great time!! The only issue is MONEY as is the case in being in ANY wedding so the pregnancy should be a non-issue!!

GOOD LUCK!!

Re: pregnant bridesmaids?

One of my BM was five months pregnant - and I can't imagine not having her as part of our bridal party.

One of the things I did (which she greatly appreciated) was give her the option of what she wanted to wear. I had picked mix and match outfits from David Bridal. All my BM had long black outfits. My pregnant BM choose a dress instead of a skirt/top so that she would not have someting pulling on her stomach. It worked out really well.

Edited to add: I asked this BM to be part of my wedding party before she was pregnant. However, I knew that she wanted to TTC for a second child. She actually planned her TTC aroung my wedding (i.e. she planned it so that she would not be more than 5 months pregant so she could make the trip cross country for my wedding).
