I know this varies, but does anyone know offhand what some areas in nassau county charge, say like Hempstead? Also, do you need to pay property taxes on a condo/co-op? Is it reduced in anyway?

Im not sure about co-op/condo thing but the Prop Taxes in West Hempstead depending on size & updated home & additions. Can vary greatly. We are in Frank Sq. right now & ours are 9700.00 We are in process of buying another home in oceanisde & those taxes are 10G my house in LB also 10G.![]()
We are in West Hempstead and our property taxes are $9100, DH wants to have it reassessed because our neighbors are paying less than us, but we have to wait until January for that

I have a condo in suffolk and yes, you do pay property taxes, but of course it's much less than a house... In my area, holbrook, the house taxes are around 7 i believe... we pay about half that
And just to give you a view of what Suffolk is......Im literally less than a 1/4 mile into Suffolk in Farmingdale and my taxes are just under 8K for a 3 dormered cape on a pretty decent size lot (lot is bigger than most in my area)

I pay $11,400 in property tax a year. I should live in a palace!

Property taxes in Nassau are ridiculous! We were happy when we found our house since the taxes were $9,000 a year
We are in South Hempstead (RVC schools) and pay around $9500 a year....

This post is very helpful to me.. We are in the process of looking for a home in LI.. It has been a challenge due to the taxes compare to what we pay here in ATL. But doable. I'm trying not to focus on the taxes becuase I tend to pay my escrow at the beginning of the year for easier payments.
I hope to find something in the 7K.. No more!!![]()

Property taxes are what I do for a living. It's hard to give a ballpark figure because there are so many variables to property taxes on LI. The south shore in Nassau County has some of the highest taxed properties in the country. Best bet when looking for houses, figure your property taxes are going to be between $1,000 - $1,200 a month. This way if you come up under, you'll be relieved!

we're currently house hunting in nassau county and all the property taxes we are seeing are between 8-11K.
