Proud of my hubby

I have to throw it out there that I am sooo proud of my DH!
He is going to be signing up to become a volunteer firefighter as of April 1st & then he'll be starting his track towards taking the FDNY test next year! From mechanic to firefighter - good for him (& us!!)


Now that he's got that all figured out, time to start concentrating on what im going to do with my degree

I know what you mean though.. It feels like I will never figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life!

That is really awesome! my dad brother and uncle are all volunteer firefighters in new hyde park and its really an awesome thing!!

i told DH once we move he should totally be a volunteer in our town!

i grew up with it all my life, so im some what use to it, but it can get kinda annoying...i dunno what particular fire department he is joining, but the way it works at my dads is that basically you are on call 24/7 if you are in the neigborhood, you have to go to the call and you have to make a certain percentage...so be prepared during bbq's and parties, in the middle of the night, during dinner and birthdays for him to have to leave!
its still so worth it tho! when i was younger i would get soo upset when my dad had to leave during my bday parties!!

We're in the Manorville FD - and apparently a good portion of the calls are rescue, accident related rather than fire. Except i guess for when the pine barrens go on fire - cause we're right there!!
I just started thinking about the whole getting calls in the middle of the night and my sleepy self hates that part...but i think i can deal with everything else.
He'll find out all of the details Apr 1st & after that I get to start playing 20 questions with him...cause im the type of person that needs to know all of the info as well, since its totally effecting me too!

yeah there arent many fire fires in new hyde park either, but lots of people call the fire department for anything!! lol you will learn all the codes, and when his page goes off know what he is going to.
you will also meet a ton of people! there are always dinners and stuff the firedepartment puts on. my dads is actually having a comedy night fundraiser this weekend that they put on every year...they also go on a sweet vacation pretty much every year, and usually members are paid for!
