Q: how much of a gift if you were in this situation?

In a wedding party just asked two weeks ago and now I am putting my dp on my dress which will total to $300 since it is custom. I will have to drive to RI and back and spend aprox. $180-$200 per night at a hotel for two nights in a row.

I will be paying for hair but makeup is being done by another bm. I am friends with the bride but we are not BF, we see each other once a year and I do love the girl but I am not sure how much I should give.

Thanks!

I would go with $150 - $200

How much did you receive as a gift from her at your wedding? I would give the same amount, if you don't feel comfortable with that amount that than give what you can. It is an expense to be in a wedding party, and than to travel.

I agree, but then again go with what YOU can afford. I was surprised to see how much certain people gave me at the wedding, I am talking about 'lawyers' and really high up directors. It's just how it is lately, the economy. It's nice if she gets anything from you. I think $150-$200 is decent, and if you can't give that much, then don't. Give what you can.

Her and her fiance gave i think $75 I gotta check my records. She also bailed on my shower so my mom paid for her seat and she couldn't come due to work (which i do understand) but I would of sent a card and she didn't do that and I was kinda upset over the no card bit but I was happy she came to the wedding and now asked me to be in her bp.

I agree. If I were in that situation I would not be able to afford to give what I normally would.
IMO you give what you can afford at the time, and it shouldn't be a problem.

if thats the case, and since you are spending so much already....I think $75-$100, even if its both you and DH going.

It comes down to a gift is a gift and you give what you have.
I had a wedding in Florida where I paid over $350 for the dress, had to pay for airfare and a hotel room for the weekend. I still gave what I normally would have but I saved for it in advance since I knew it was coming. DH didnt come with me to save money.

Ugh - custom dress...yikes!

When is the wedding? If I were you, I'd give what they gave you. It its $100, then its $100. You have to take into consideration that it is a non-NY wedding and people dont give what they give here. LIWers may chastize for saying that but its true! Plus you are traveling, etc, etc.

We went to a wedding in Utah and gave them what they gave us - $100. Not alot but we traveled to them and they traveled to us.
