QOTD .... 2/3 ... Are you living the life of your dreams?

A question on the NWR board prompted me to start thinking ... it may be too personal to discuss here, but we should always be thinking ...

Are you living the life of your dreams?

In terms of your career, your personal life, friends, family relationships ...
Do you have unfulfilled dreams that you need to start making reality? Is there something that calls to you .... a part of your life that you are working on?

Especially after this weekend we are reminded that life is tooooo short. Let's motivate each other to begin to make our dreams reality!! Whatever they may be or how insignificant they may seem.

Anyone want to share?

I think for the most part we are, but there is always room for new dreams, growth and more happiness. We just sold a house in Selden and bought in Merrick (I grew up in Bellmore and he in Nassau as well, so we really wanted to get back there)... and we are not going through it again, so this is the house we will leave to our kids.. lol. Our relationship is great and we seem to get closer every day. Family relationships are great as well, we are both very close to our families and to each others families. Friends, we don't get to see as much as we used to, part being us in Suffolk and them in Nassau, so I see that improving a great deal when we move as well. We will start ttc at the end of this year, and hope all goes well with that. I think there is always things that we can work on. Biggest thing to me is to make sure that Mark and the rest of our family and friends know how much we love them. We also try to spend a lot of quality time with my nieces and nephews as well, as the kids are very important to us.
We actually ended up going unplanned to hang out with family Saturday afternoon, in part due to the events of Saturday. Honestly, we really took stock of our lives and goals after 9/11. Mark is a cop and lost a few friends and spent a lot of time there, and it really made us re-evaluate some things.

Re: QOTD .... 2/3 ... Are you living the life of your dreams?

If you asked this question within the first two years of my marriage, I would definitely say 'NO!'. We went through all kinds of hell the 1st two years. Not only were we having adjustment issues in terms of being married, but we bought a house that was more than either one of us was prepared for. It was a Murphy's Law of events; from a fire the 1st night we closed to discovering the house had sagged by two whole inches (due to water/termite damage) to faulty electric, incorrect grading, leaking windows, you name it. If you ever saw the movie 'The Money Pit', that was our life in a nutshell (including the turkey flying through the window). We had to literally rebuild 85% of the original structure on our own. It was horrendous. It taxed our strength as a couple, our wallets and our faith that anything good was coming our way. Compound that with the most horrible set of inteferring, marriage wrecking inlaws a person could have, it near broke us apart on more than one occasion.

Going on year three, things have turned around. The house is now everything we've dreamed about and more, we've done our best to buffer the continual chaos caused by his family and we've never been more in synch with each other and our needs. There's alot of personal goals I would love to achieve; like make more money, finally get my degree, lose the weight I've been carrying around since I was a kid, etc. All in good time. You can't change everything at once, you will fail at all if you try to. Considering my focus was all over the place for the last few years, personal time is becoming more available to make those changes, take those courses and improve myself overall. Could our current life be better? Sure, there's always room for improvement - but I'd take the here and now over 2000/2001 anyday. I would never in a million years want to give up what I have now, because we've worked so hard and made soo many sacrifices to get to this point in our lives.

My husband has been the biggest gift to me. A gift so great I know it only came from God himself. He encourages me and makes me so happy I can hardly stand it sometimes. I never thought I would marry a man as wonderful as him. (Sorry...I'm so sappy). Anyway in that part of my life I feel very fulfilled.

My biggest problem right now is that I feel like I cannot get it together when it comes to my career. He is extremely supportive and career wise I feel like I'm missing something. Christine you will be happy to know I went to my old school at lunchtime today to get my transcripts for my college application. I've decided with hubby's support to go back to school full-time. I also want to buy a house and have a family but its hard to do that all at the same time. I can't say I've got it all...but I can say I'm on the way there.

Edited to say I'd be going for my masters.

In my personal life yes, I am very happy with the kind of lifestyle that we have. We travel, we have alone time, we have couple time, we are not burdened down with debt or anything for that matter. I love my life and I truly thank God for his many blessings. I know hubby and I have dreams of opening our own restaurant but all in time. I would love to teach aerobics, but I need to put the wheels in motion to get this done. I would love to do my volunteer work on a full time basis, but obviously get paid for it. I truly believe that all things in time. I will keep positive and working towards these goals.

Congrats Irene

Irene ... I'm teary reading your post! You 2 are truly a wonderful couple. You deserve each other & the happiness that you share will help you achieve what you want in your life. You can achieve whatever you dream. I'm so glad to hear that the wheels are in motion! **APPLAUSE**

As for me, I'm also married to my perfect match. He is my greatest blessing & I am truly greatful for our relationship every day. My relationship with his family is terrific, with my family is wonderful too. I am also blessed with wonderful loving friends and I have a career that I feel called for.

Several years ago, I bought my house. What an accomplishment. If there was any thing in my life that convinced me that if you can dream it, you can have it, it was getting the house. ALONE. 4 months later, I met Vinnie. That's fate.

We are now TTC & I'm praying that we are blessed with a family of our own.

My husband exceeded my expectations of what I wanted in a husband. He is truly the most beautiful person I ever met.He is truly a gift from God. He is the love of my life and my very best friend.
I can't wait to see him everyday after work. I just feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
We have great families and friends.
The one thing that isn't that great is my job. I like what I do but the pay stinks and the commute is long and the hours are long.

Eagarly awaiting Erica's exciting news!!!

As for me, I am 1000% living the life I've always wanted. Of course I have goals and desires, but where I am today is perfect for today.

I love my husband, pooch, home, job, and life... sometimes I wonder how long I can go on being so lucky.

Re: QOTD .... 2/3 ... Are you living the life of your dreams?

I'm in school right now. DH is helping me get back to grad school so that I can have the career of my dreams. As for the rest, we hope to have the house of our dreams within a few years. We're looking forward to this summer so we can enjoy our new boat.

Putting material things aside, I am now married to the man of my dreams! That's most important. As for the other stuff, there's always some other better bigger material object for us to want. I need to keep things in perspective and cherish what I do have.

I have to say that we all have goals in our life, yes I want the huge house all nicely decorated, and a Lexus in my driveway.
But Im so happy with my life now. I went to school for what I want to do. I always wanted to be a Special Ed Teacher. Never thought I would ever want to work in a high school, but I LOVE it. I love who I work with. I was the first one in my familyto get a Master's degree.
I have to say Im totally happy with the way Im living my life. I have a house, and I have my hubby who I love most, and we are happy and healthy. I have a great relationship with my family and friends. Could you ask for more??

Re: QOTD .... 2/3 ... Are you living the life of your dreams?

I think 'dream' is an odd word for me. When I go to sleep and dream about life do I dream about living on LI- not really. I dream of living in a cozy New England town with a pretty main street. But in real life I would never want to leave my family for that town. When I was a teenager I dreamed of the life of a movie star, which is not how my life turned out.
I have had many of my dreams come true- I found a man that I love and that loves me back. I have a family that I love and loves me back. I have many close friends that I can count on. I have a good job, while no where near my dream job, is a job that I don't mind, doesn't make me cry, doesn't take over my life- so it is better than a lot of people's jobs. Scott and I have a beautiful kitty that we love very much, and we just purchased a house. My dream life has really evolved over time, and I figure, it will probably change often. Could we use more money- sure. Could I have a better job- of course. But all in all I am living the life that was meant for me and I am very happy.
