i second bayside and whitestone. Closer to the city but you still feels a bit like 'suburbs'. Dh takes the railroad and its 25 min to penn.

Would you consider an attached home or do you prefer condo like townhomes?

I really have no preferance just want something bigger then 600 Sqft cause thats all we are finding apartment wise

Lurking 08 bride here.

Def. look into Bayside, Little Neck, New Hyde Park, Whitestone, Douglaston. They border LI and are generally suburb-like with more town-home and condo options.

There is a new condo that is going up in Forest Hills or may already be up at this point. Here is the linkNovo 64

Queens tends to have more co-op's, though there def. are condo's.

I'm assuming your looking to purchase?

There are not townhomes but Laharve is nice in whitestone, Cryder Point is even nicer (bigger)

Bay Bridge condos are nice- not huge but comfy- esp if you get the bigger ones.

Birchwood towers has a row of townhomes. Right off Bell Blvd and xpress bus is a block away.

I would do a mls search for whitestone, bayside, douglaston, little neck

There are these new condo 'homes' in college point that are just gorg! They come in one family or 2 family but they are right by the water and stunning. They are though. I don't know what budget is.

The queens areas that are closest to the city, like Astoria (where I live), LIC, Sunnyside, Woodside don't really have much in the way of townhouses, it's apartments buildings and mostly multi-family houses, some single family but those are usually further from the train.

You'd have to go further out in Queens, like the areas the ladies mentioned above to get true townhouses.

hey stace! i've told you already but i LOVE where i live! Forest Hills is beautiful & the apartments here are price friendly & super roomy there are townhomes, but i have no idea what they cost - i'm sure their but they're GORG! there are also 'townhome style' apts...my manager has one that's beautiful right up the block from me..looks like a townhome from the outside, but when u go in u go up the steps to her apt. it's really pretty & spacious too...i know she rents though...

are u looking to purchase or rent & what's ur budget???

good luck!

yes, it is in a good area.  Its awesome too because if you live in the building they provide shuttle service to the train for your commute, now thats something I would love.

As far as queens.  Astoria is VERY close to the city, the furthest stop in astoria is only 13 minutes to lexington, and if you go by car youre right by the 59th street bridge so takes 10-15 mins to drive into the city, you also have the triborough which is quicker bc its less of a drive to get to.  There aren't as many townhouses though.  It used to be mainly houses, alot of 2 family houses but if you get an apt like that it would be renting.  Recently though new condo's having been going up everywhere.  Theres a new one on ditmars and 45th street you might want to check out, recently they've been having open house every weekend.

OOOHHHH wait even better now is long island city.  Its expensive and they can charge alot for small spaces but not sure how much every place is charging.  If i had a choice as to where i would love to live now it would be LIC.  Its even closer to the city, LIC is right by astoria, it connects.  But LIC is just a little bit closer to the city bc closer to the bridge.  They have built up that area now and it is great.  Theres alot of luxury high rise buildings such as avalon, arris lofts, and many many more.  If you want to just check it out and see what they look like, go to craigslist and put in long island city.  I love the buildings that are right across the street from the water.  Theres a nice park on the water called gantry park, and you have the most amazing view of the nyc skyline.  They've tried to make it alot like williamsburg brooklyn, so you have alot of real cute cafe's, new restaurants, stores all around.  Maybe one day go to gantry park just to check out the neighborhood.  You can hang out at the park, alot of ppl go there to spend the day.  Alot of girls have taken e-pics and wedding pics there for the view, i took my e-pics there.

Forest hills/kew gardens is where you'll find the most condo's and co-ops, they're everywhere.  LOVE the neighborhood.  Its still easy to get to the city, by train if you take the LIRR its 15 mins exactly to penn station, the NYC trains are a bit more annoying to get to the city.  To drive it will take a little bit longer than astoria or LIC, but not that bad.  I grew up in astoria and now live in kew gardens, so i was used to being right next to the city so thats why i think forest hills and kew gardens is a bit further from the city, but like i said still not bad.  Theres high rise buildings and theres also alot of pre-war buildings, personally i love the pre-war buildings bc many of the apts are alot bigger plus love the architecture inside.Ive been going nuts looking for a new place, hopefully by the end of the summer we get this done.

But if you need help with particular buildings or any info on the places i mentioned, feel free to fm me.I grew up in astoria and so did DH so know it very well.  I live now in kew gardens so know the area and forest hills plus looking to buy a new place here so have been researching this. Also LIC is 5 mins from astoria, IL's grew up there and MIL works there now so have info on those locations

Re: Queens gals???

stacey does it have to be a townhouse? you remember my apt right - it's a pretty decent size (over 1k sq feet) but it's a co-op. I agree with the others that it's a little hard to find townhouses in the areas close to the city. I love my neighborhood - forest hills/rego park border - and it's close to the city and convenient to LI, but depending on how close I agree with denise that it's a little further out than like astoria or LIC, though not as far as bayside or whitestone. There are tons of new condos in LIC; I would definitely check those out if you want to be super close to the city.

Re: Queens gals???

if you decide on eastern queens bayside, whitestone you may need to use LIRR to commute cause those neighborhoods are not near subways. there may be express buses. just remember that LIRR or express buses will cost alot more than subways.

Forest Hills commute on the subway can be very trying. ever see pics of Japanese trains with people pushers on the platforms. you could use tham in FH - - at least that was true a few years ago. some current commuters from there can you verify or say if the commute has improved?

Besides a safe neighborhood - - ask about the commute. I used to live in Ridgewood and most days it snowed I took vacation time cause my trip to midtown could take 2 hrs - - I was in a bus area!!! stupid mta didn't think about this big icy hill - - let all the buses go down the hill and none could get back up on return trip!!!

I second this... I live close to forest hills & kew gardens... GORGEOUS area... quiet. I would suggest taking the LIRR over the subway.

Highly recommend LIC... I lived there years ago and absolutely LOVED it.. very easy commute. Even a cab ride home from work (on 42nd...no not THAT kind of work) cost me about 15 bucks..

good luck!
