I am originally from Brooklyn, so I can help you with that.Bayridge is great. There are lots of great restaraunts & lots of shopping and you can get into the city by either train or express bus. Dyker Heights is also good as is parts of Bensonhurst. I also like Park Slope, Carroll Gardens and Brooklyn Heights. Those areas are very, very close to the city and have lots of shopping, restaraunts and fun things to do.

i don't think you can go wrong with forest hills. i bought my place two years ago and DH moved in after we were married; we both love it. I work in the city and he works in LI and it's pretty convenient for both of us.

I love Brooklyn also but I'm a Queens girl originally and I just think you get a lot more for you money here.

I'm born raised and still live in Rockaway Beach (of the Ramones punk song fame) Queens. Its a great place for beach lovers in summer; winter its a bit of a bear.

There's a ton of construction going on right now. check out:

Arverne by The Sea

Belle Shores Condos

Ocean Grande condos

Good luck!!

I live in Astoria and have for quite a few years. It's a great neighborhood, really safe, lots of families, amazing restaurants and you're basically the first part of queens outside of midtown so if you work in the city, you can be at 59th St in 15 minutes. I highly recommend it.

Bayside, Whitestone or Oakland Gardens area is GREAT in Queens (disctrict 26 for schools- one of the BEST in the city) . Its a little pricey though

Good luck!

i have been dying to check these places out!!!!!!!! DH is skeptical about buying a place before seeing what it is going to be like ( as in, before the area is established ) but i would love to go see !!

i recommend Forest Hills, my brother and sister live there and i really like it there!

Re: Queens/Brooklyn girls

depends if you have a commute to deal with- certain areas of Queens are better than others for commuting (some have access to the LIRR).

-Howard Beach (where I live)- great area- not a ton of shopping here though- mostly restaurants!, only have the A train, so that's something to think about if you're commuting

-Bayside- great shopping, schools, and you're right by Bell Blvd! the Queens mecca of nightlife lol
-Forest Hills- Austin St. is like being in the city- cute cafes and tons of shopping
-Astoria (but if you have a car might be a big pain for parking!)
-Douglaston
-Little Neck
-Glen Oaks
-Whitestone

good luck!!

Are you looking to live by a train or a more suburban area?
