sorry i know this is asked a thousand times..and i swear i did use the search but got so many diff answers
thurs dh is taking me to ss to get a new card with my new last name..im going to the one in jamacia..cause im a queens resident right?
can i go to dmv right after and change that same day or do i need my new ss card for that?
and does anyone know how much both were?

You definitely have to go to the SS in Jamaica to change your name/get a new card. I don't remember how much it was.
You do not need your new SS card to get a new license/photo ID at the DMV. You can go right after (I did!).

You can definitely go to DMV right after SS office......that's exactly what I did. New SS card is free, but new license is $12.50.

I went to the S.S. office in Brooklyn, I live in Queens. No one said anything and I had my card in 7 days.

i was told by the SS office I had to wait for my new card to come before I went to the DMV. They definitely looked at the new card

That's so strange! I did both in the same day, they never once asked me to see my SS card when I was at the DMV.

i think my whole experience between SS and DMV was very strange.
just a side note too...if you have to renew your license, they'll waive the $12.50 for the name change fee

i went to the dmv first..it was no problem and cost about 10 bucks. you will have ot take a new pic though.
ss card was free : )

You can go the same day - I even suggest going to the DMV in Jamaica since you'll be right there. That's what I did - really early!

when u go to SS they give you a receipt with your new name on it. that's what I used to show my name change at the DMV. (DMV cost 12.50, SS was free). Also, i think since the DMV is state, you can go anywhere within NYS. SS prefers that u go to the jamaica office if ur in queens. u cant go to your local district office.
