Question about a wedding gift

My cousin and her long time (almost 20 yrs) boyfriend just recently got married. it was a civil cermony in town hall, no one even knew until afterwards.

it's a really long story, but lets just say that they finally decided to tie the knot because he is very ill. it was done more for legal reasons than anything else.

so my question is, I definitely want to send them a gift (money), but I don't know how much. I asked my mom and she wasn't any help. maybe you ladies have some advice. do I send them a check for what they gave us for our wedding? I am at a loss!!
