So I'm on the patch for almost a year. Well, I'm totally fed up with it - my PMS is AWFUL - I get crazy bloated like 2 weeks before, and my 'MS' is also terrible - really unfun (sorry, I'm avoiding TMI). not to mention i gained weight, but nothing disastrous.
here's my question: we are not ready to TTC yet. maybe next year after I graduate in late 2010 (maybe). My annual is in July, and I was just going to ask to switch to the pill but now I'm debating even doing that... maybe I should just go off it completely until next year? or go on it for six months? either way i want off the patch like NOW, but not sure if I should wait at least until my dr appt. What do you girls think? go off it completely and give my body a break, or go on the pill for a year and just stop when we decide to TTC?
what happens when you go off BC, like what should I expect? I feel like I've been on it my whole life.
Thanks... I'm just pretty confused about what to do and who better to ask than a bunch of married girls!

Re: Question about BC (poll)
So I'm coming off the pill but we want to really TTC at the end of the year. When I went to the dr. last he told me to stop in June/July about 6 months before we TTC. I'm coming off earlier because it really hinders my weight loss.
If I were you I'd go on BC until 6 mnths before you think you might want to TTC.

thanks! i think you're right... but do you think it's a big deal if I go off the patch for 2 months (until July) and then just start over then? will it totally mess me up? not sure.

No, it shouldn't. I went off the pill for like 3 months a few years ago, to give my body a break ... it didn't really hurt anything, and I went right back on the pill.

thanks - this is exactly what I was wondering it's just been so long since i haven't been on anything but I figured 2 months is not a big deal.

Jen totally took the words right out of my mouth. Just be extra careful in those two months but you should be OK.

Re: Question about BC (poll)
I am going through the EXACT same thing. However I decided to stay on the patch until my doctors appointment next month. Then I'm not sure what i'm going to switch to, but I definitely want off the patch. This is a new doctor that i'm going to, so hopefully she'll suggest something better! I actually just ran out of patches this week and went today to pick up two more boxes. I didn't want to not use them cuz we are so not ready for a baby!

Re: Question about BC (poll)
i think you should stay on some kind of birth control until you are ready to TTC or if you know you will be prepared for a surprise you can come off BC and then bam get pregnant even if you aren't trying - it doesnt happen a lot but it DOES happen - so as long as you are prepared for that i say go off it.....
i am too paranoid and will probably stay on BC until the day before we TTC

really?? is it the same symptoms etc? I wasn't so great about taking a pill everyday so I tried the patch and nuvaring... the patch would be just fine but my body just doesn't react well to it - I keep hearing my friends tell great stories about how they never get their pd or PMS on the pill, and I'm like WHAT am I doing on this thing!

My biggest problem with it is weight gain. I've gained almost 15 pounds and as much as I'm working out, its so hard to lose! I'm hoping that its from the patch, I've never looked this way before and its getting worse. I love that its only once a week, so i'm hoping to switch to something like that but not sure if it will be an option. If it wasn't for the weight gain I would love it. I don't really get bad pms, a little cramping and i get emotional, but not that bad. So annoying to deal with

wow, I totally didn't think about it that way. I just assumed all the weight I gained was from the wedding, which was right before I switched to the patch! I figured maybe I gained 5 lbs just from the patch but maybe it IS more b/c i really don't think I eat all that unhealthy and I couldn't figure out why I put on like 15 lbs. Hm...

I know! I didn't know the patch could do that, until someone posted on here that they gained 30lbs from it. Other people posted that they gained weight from it too. I've also been working out a lot and really don't eat that bad as well, and its so frustrating to not be able to lose a pound! I'm hoping that changes when I switch

Re: Question about BC (poll)
every person is different....i personally am fine with most forms of BC but i have friends that have had nightmares of hormone problems....
i would stick with what your using until you are about 6 months to a year away from TTC date
you can always switch but it may cause problems, you never know how your body will react

Switch to the pill now. Just tell your doc you're really unhappy with the patch and want to go on the pill.

hi girl
My advise to you is to get off completely. I am not a fan really of the pill or any artificial hormone. As long as your careful and learn your body you shouldn't have any incidents or accidents.
I have never had a problem I never take anything without giving TMI. JMO

Part of my reasoning is.. I just feel it would be really great to give your body 1 year or however long you decide to start a family with a detox. Esp after you said you had been on for sometime. Totally NOT a fan of things being in your system for a long time in general. You would just need to be more responsible in terms of 'watching your cycle'
