if you were set to be a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding, and the wedding was cancelled 2 weeks before the wedding, would you expect to be reimbursed for anything? like a plane ticket, BM dress, shower gift.
Thanks ladies in advance for your advice!
ETA: the wedding was called off because she cheated on her fiance, if that helps to give more background on the situation

I agree. I would think that she's probably so sad and overwhelmed. Maybe eventually she will give it back but I wouldn't expect it.

the fact that she cheated changes my original thought a bit...she really SHOULD reinburse you for something but my guess is she prob doesnt have the money to pay everyone back for everything

i totally agree- i had a friend that i was in the bridal party & she cancelled her wedding b/c she fell in love with one of our older friends & decided to sleep with him. I told her how wrong that was & wanted to be reinbursed for the money i spend on the dress & alterations & she did even though it took 3 months

I have to kind of agree, that really does change things. She asked you to support what you thought was her expression of love for her then FH, and then she made a mockery of it herself. It seems really unfair to all of you....at the same time, if you value the friendship you may have to eat the $$. I'm not sure how I would feel if a friend did that...

Re: question about being in a bridal party
honestly, don't expect it back..
DH's entire family was invited to a wedding in TX in late Sept. and was cancelled a few days before.. we knew we couldn't go, so we sent her check and she cashed it before the wedding.. and the wedding got cancelled.. and she's not returning the money.. her cousin who is BIL's friend said that the next time she gets married, those who call gave her a gift now, don't have to give her anything else.. quite dumb on his part..

Re: question about being in a bridal party
I wouldnt expect to get anything back. I would try to contact the airline and switch those flights to a different destination. Try selling the dresses here or on e-bay. If no alterations where done, maybe you can try to return them to the store. Has she been in contact with anyone from the bridal party? She is probably all over the place and has lost tons of money to be thinking about reimbursing anyone right now.

Re: question about being in a bridal party
Maybe make some subtle hints? I have mixed feelings on this one. B/c she did mislead you...Maybe don't expect it back but talk to her and say how you are a bit bummed that you shelled out a lot of money to be part of her day, and now its gone due to what she chose to do....

Re: question about being in a bridal party
thanks, everyone! i am not expecting anything back either, but I did lose about 800 dollars and money is kinda tight right now. i wasn't able to change the flight and lost all the money on that. it just bothered me because she never took the wedding seriously in the first place, and I had a feeling it was going to be cancelled from the start, and it turns out I was right.
but for the sake of the friendship, i don't really plan to bring the issue up. I just know that if the situation was reversed, I would have offered to pay her back, at least a tiny portion of the money.
